If I were to move back to PGH, I would consider living in deep South Oakland. Easy access to dawntawn, the Parkway and the East End in general.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I'm not sure I understand. What's overly "simplistic" about it? You said its difficult to get to these locations from there because of traffic. I explained that the main arteries into town from there -- Liberty, Penn, and Smithfield -- are reasonable and run you around 10 minutes or so. I do this trip a lot, even though I don't live there. Its a centrally located area near highway access in most directions. None of the options "suck" in terms of access. Explain to me what areas of Pittsburgh provide the best access to PGH metro in all directions if not downtown, the Strip, Lawrenceville, South Side, and similarly central locations with high way access. If you think they "suck" independent of travel, ok, but in terms of location this really seems self-evident.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:Your travel logistics are overply simplistic. Thats like saying, "oh, I live in beechview. If I think the traffic on liberty ave will suck, then I can just take the fort pitt tunnel instead! because they are both closeby!!!" without acknowledging that both options suck. or better yet, arguing that oakland, especially north oakland, has easy access to the parkway.
but at the end of the day, we can agree to disagree, as long as you apologize for your boonie comments.
Re: Oakland, I don't get it. North Oakland has better access to the parkway east than most every other city neighborhood. If I wanted to live in the city, and my job required me to work in Monroeville, Sq. Hill and Oakland would probably be your bets. So yea, it has better than average access to the parkway compared to most places.
I'm just joking around with you on the boonies.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I spent a summer on Parkview. My friend's sister bought a house on Parkview not long after graduating - the Marino side of the blvd. The other 3 years were on Semple.
I've been representing East Liberty for a little over two years now.
But I came in this thread looking for beer(s) to go along with homemade pizza(s).

Had a Brooklyn Fire and Ice Porter. I think I've found my second favorite type of beer, underneath the stouts.
Also picked up a 6er of Troegs Dream Weaver. May try some later.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I don't have it in front of me, but I want to say that the late Michael Jackson's Ultimate Beer recommended pairing malty ales with pizza, like a Belgian dubbel or a brown ale. Personally, my favorite beer with pizza is Chimay Red, although for cost reasons I don't have that combo very often. One of the finest meals I've ever had in my life was a wood-fired pepperoni pizza (with giant, thick slices of pepperoni) washed down with a 750mL bottle of Chimay Red.pittsoccer33 wrote:But I came in this thread looking for beer(s) to go along with homemade pizza(s).

This gentleman is not sure if blue dust (which is just over the tracks from the water front) has six packs or not but they have a lot of beers on tap.
D's isnt that far away either.
The giant iggle in the waterfront has six packs, too.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Between being laid off these past few months and Barley and Hops being closed, my beer tasting has fallen off a bit, but I tried Weyerbacher Heresy the other night. My god is it delicious, easily one of my top 5 beers immediately.

Duclaw peanut butter stout...really not an overwhelming flavor. I kind of dug it and I'm not a porter fan. Had it on tap.

Had an Irish oatmeal red ale at rock bottom and it was pretty tasty. Their west coast ipa and brown ale were pretty good as well.

The aroma is unfortunately significantly better than the flavor. If it tasted as good as it smells it would be one of my new favorites.canaan wrote:Duclaw peanut butter stout...really not an overwhelming flavor. I kind of dug it and I'm not a porter fan. Had it on tap.

I kind of liked it but I could only drink one or two, it's so sweet.
