I hate getting word that former students of mine died (mostly car accidents). Especially the ones that I liked. I don't know how high school teachers that have been in the game for a while deal with it. I'd say the average high school teacher has 100 kids a year. Just looking at the odds, you're bound hear news of about 1 a year. Just sad to see life gone so young.

Just in my graduating class alone, there have been 7 deaths out of like 320 kids, 6 of them to car accidents.

There are 3 kids from my younger brother's high school class (2013) who have died since they graduated in June.

Gone to the big dating game show in the sky. I didn't realize it started in the 60's; never hung around the house watching much tv.

Comedian Tim Wilson, most famous for his appearances on Bob and Tom, died of a heart attack at 51. I'd imagine most people have heard this song before.

Porky Chedwick passed away this morning at age 96 according to http://www.pbrtv.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. He was a very influential early DJ in Pittsburgh and instrumental in introducing R&B records to white audiences. Very important figure in Pittsburgh radio and American radio in general.

Was very glad BFM gave Harold Ramis the recognition he did, but part of me still felt it was somehow self-serving. I don't know that too many people know that he voluntarily checked out of his friendship with Ramis twenty-odd years ago. They just saw Venkman giving Spengler his due.

RIP Steve Schneer, former pro skateboarder. Skated mostly in the 80s, returned to pro skating during the beginning of the warped tour in the mid 90s.

http://pearljam.com/news/0/1/22199/steve_schneer_rip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As it happens, Steve's death WAS a sad story too. Steve ended up taking is own life. This got me thinking, is there a higher than normal number of skaters that commit suicide? Right off the top of my head I can think of 5 vert skaters. Is the artistically inclined person like say a skateboarder more likely to end life on their own? I always figured that the free spirit of a skateboarder would give the motivation and the drive to deal with the bread of life.
