no, NY has a bigger need for top end skill than they do a gritty intangibles type player. St. Louis is still a top 10 forward in the league.DelPen wrote:Anyone else think TB is actually the winner here an NY got a bit easier to play against?

Re: 2014 NHL Trade Rumors/Trades/Signing Thread
The Rangers could have added a F from another trade and flipped Callahan for a #1 (to someone else).
I think they lost the trade.

When that Richards/St Louis pair dies of old age next year, the Rags are going to be a lottery pick and the Lightning are going to get McDavid.

Brian Metzer @Brian_Metzer
I can't believe that Yzerman could only get Callahan, a 1st and a 2nd for a 38 year old rental! #SayWHAT #SlatsStrikesAgain

If Callahan signs with TBL, the Rangers get a pick in return.

Assuming that Metzer was being sarcastic, at least try to be accurate...why specify rental? You're better than that.

The Lightning improved skill and grit today, and got some assets for the future.

I think TB definitely won in that trade, but who knows how those picks are going to work out. The fact of the matter is that if you've got a star that wants out, you have to get what you can get for him. Steve Y. did a good job here.

Yzerman fleeced them. Watch callahan sign for like a $4.5 million dollar hit.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 4s
More details: the 2nd-rounder in 2014 to Tampa becomes a 1st if NYR gets to conf final; if Callahan re-signs in TB (con'td)
then NYR get TB 2nd in 2015 and TB gets Rangers 7th in 2015

I get that NYR get a good player, but that's a hefty price for St Louis. Yzerman absolutely won that deal, IMO.

Stamkos' numbers are about to plummet without St. Louis making him better, stupid trade for the Lightning.

The one part of the trade the Rangers won was whatever they in exchange for that 2nd becoming a first if they make the conference finals.

Long term...most likely. As of this year, they made their team worse IMO.Loaf31 wrote:TB won that trade hands down
