Unlike most Unibroue beers, that indeed sounds terrible. :pop:
Pffft. I like coffee. And beer that tastes coffee like is good.

Got an MYO 6er at Kroger. Their selection was pretty meh:

Tap Room No. 21 Wheat Beer
Tap Room No. 21 Belgian White
New Belgium Snapshot Wheat Beer (like I said, the selection was meh)
Hofbrau Dunkel
Thirsty Dog Old Leghumper (Porter)
Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald

Starting with the Edmund tonight. Not bad, but has that same bitterness like every other Great Lakes beer.

Tried the Stochasticity Project Grapefruit Slam DIPA from Stone on Friday. I liked it.pretty bitter grapefruit rind flavor.

Just grabbed a mixed six at GE. Somehow a couple Victory Dirt Wolfs found their way in there. Grabbed both of those, a Victory Swing, Great Divide Collette, Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin', and a Founders Porter. Quality six.

Has anyone else had lagunitas sucks? I invested in a case which I rarely do since I prefer variety packs if in buying nice stuff for home. It's exceptional.

I have relatives in Youngstown and I make sure to stop at V.E. whenever I’m in town to visit. It’s an easy drive; it’s right off 680, which itself is the first exit off the Ohio Turnpike. V.E. has a huge beer selection, and it includes dozens of brews that I’ve never seen in Pennsylvania (one example: Hitachino Nest beer from Japan). If you are anywhere near Youngstown/Boardman, or you want to take a weekend driving excursion, I recommend you check this place out.
Went there today. A hipster vibe to it, but lots of good beers...plus, you can drink while you shop. Not a bad deal. Decent prices as well.

Got:
Founders Porter
Julius Echter Hefe
SchuppenBoer Jack of Spades tripel
Plead the 5th Imperial Stout
Ayinger Brauweisse
Scneiderweisse original
I'm about a half hour from there, and my company does our training in Boardman, so we always go out there after trainings. It's an awesome place.

I had it this week at Brillobox actually. Lagunitas is quality. Something similar about most if their stuff. I'm guessing hops. I actually id'd the sucks from a couple smells, just had that distinct lag aroma.

I've seen more than enough that I am interested in trying already and there are still quite a few TBDs and unannounced beers to go. And there is of course the awesome people who are attending.

And I am never one to complain at a chance to drink Draai Laag, even if it's there 2 most "common" beers. Simon Girty is the real deal.

Interestingly, I got an email saying the Saturday session was sold out... guess there are a lot of people more interested in getting their drink on than watching the Pens-Hawks. I'm not one of them... that's what Friday is for!

Helltown Dranik Dark Lager was very good. I'm definitely in a brown ale kick right now.

Anyone ever have fatheads hop ju ju?

edit: apparently they just started bottling this and it came out last week, should've grabbed a case. Went with GL Conways Irish Ale instead.

this may be a stupid question, but when bars advertise to fill growlers, are they just filling them from the taps or is there something specific they use to fill these?

That seems like an odd liability risk:

1.) Person brings in an empty growler of potentially suspect cleanliness.
2.) Person gets sick that evening, from an unknown cause.
3.) Person contacts a lawyer.

it's the same risk as serving someone food, and then they get an unrelated stomach bug but sue you for food poisoning. you need some hard evidence to have a case there.

Wash your growler before you take it somewhere. They generally wash them with the same stuff they wash a glass out with before filling beer. They then attach a tube to the tap so that the beer in the growler is filled from the bottom up to prevent oxidation and less carbonation loss from the beer as they assume you're traveling somewhere with that growler. Some places have replacement caps that they give you to cap the beer, others don't so take a cap with you if you've never had a growler filled there before.

Each place is a little different, but the description above is how it SHOULD be done.
