After the "B team for Canada would still beat team USA" stuff, I just want them to go home medal-less.

It wasn't Canadian team members, but it was mostly an internet thing. I know I shouldn't be cheering against Canada for something their team didn't do, but still...

There were quite a few news reporters claiming Canada Team B would contend for a medal (which I don't necessarily disagree with, I just found it to be very "pat ourselves on the back" which I don't like). Just google Canada Team B and you'll see the news results

Tavares's season is over. That will give the NHL all the ammo they need to end Olympic participation.

Are guys like Yzerman, Burke, Shero, etc going to still pick NHL players for their Olympic teams? I can see maybe the Swedes or the Soviets doing it. But I don't see current NHL personalities/employees picking NHL players.

Listening to ESPN radio in Buffalo, which is pretty much all hockey, all the time, they said Fly'em owner Ed Snyder is dead set against any NHL participation in future Olympics. This was well before the Tavares mishap.

Maybe he was worried about Giroux getting injured. Oh wait .........

Just in the PG yesterday, they had a quote from, J Tavares indicating that if you ask the players, they would want to continue and participate in the Olympics. I thought folks were getting nervous because of playing in
South Korea... with their political climate and the time difference.

Last saturday, the NHL and hockey was at the top of the social media buzz. And not because of violence on the ice.

Healing vibes to Tavares.

Does it matter whether players get injured while playing in the NHL or the Olympics? I'm serious.

He could tear his ACL slipping on ice outside his condo.

But the fact is from Charles Wang's point of view Tavares was injured playing in a meaningless scrimage game and is unavailable to help him sell playoff tickets.

If they actually make the playoffs. They've been out of a spot for a good amount of time.

I would love a 5-3 USA win with Sid with 2 goals and an assist and Kunitz with the other goal.

I'd be more worried about being in Socchi right now than South Korea really ever since North Korea is all talk. It's 10 hours ahead of the US EST, I remember the games in Nagano started at night, you could get away with 9am games local and see them in Pittsbutgh at 7pm. Ratings would be better even if they started at 10pm than on a weekday at noon like they are in Sochi.

And if no NHL players go then no active GM or NHL coaches will be involved most likely.

I can live with that. And hopefully Finland beats Sweden and I can root for Canada in the bronze medal game.

That makes sense. So would whoever else is at USA Hockey or Hockey Canada rock the boat and pick NHL players for the teams after the league says don't do it?

IIRC, Snyder started his campaign after Giroux was left off the Canadian roster.

Yeah, I don't think it's going to impact their lack of playoff games. However, I don't doubt ticket sales will drop with Tavares out of the lineup.

...i'll need some convincing. this is the 4th best team on paper, and they lost to the 5th best. i don't think there's any way to rationalize the idea that they're on the same page as U.S. and canada, talent-wise. unless you give them a million bonus points for the 2 guys who are NHL elite players.

Yeah, they don't have 1 defenseman that I would place on US or Canada over any of the guys those teams took(or a couple others for each team).
