For example our goalie Kristan could be an regular NHL goalie and he probably would be,if he would be from Sweden..

Call up Ray Shero and have him pick up Kristan before Fleury craps the bed in the playoffs.

If you're right P4L then the first NHL GM to figure that out will really be putting his team in a good position. Look how good Detroit has got at picking European talent. Its a little bit easier now with all the footage and scouting services available, but still a bit unprecedented.

its your opinion,no biggie.. for us,its like miracle.. With so little professional players and only few play on elite leagues, its huge success.
But the thing is,that many players could play in better leagues and better clubs, but Slovenian players just arent as wanted as Czech,Slovakians,Swedes and soo on players, tradition is a bi...and a poor market, poor knowledge of slovenian hockey.. many things.

I bet Canada is just licking their chops over possibly (likely) playing Latvia.

Yeah, I sorta bristle at the use of the word 'miracle' in any hockey context. It inevitably invites comparisons, and the Slovenian team does not yet have the stuff to fare well when cast in such light. Talk to me about miracles if they beat Sweden.
Enjoy it, for it was a great accomplishment. But come on.

I don't fully understand the backlash directed at crankshaft either. This is great for Slovenia, but does it come close to "Miracle on ice"? No... it doesn't.

I don't look at it as backlash against me. They're just protecting someone genuinely excited for their team and country. I came off as really harsh, which wasn't my intent and I apologize for that. Luckily, it doesn't look like I spoiled his party.
Now, if they knock off Sweden, I'll cheer along with him. :thumb:

Re: The Official Olympic Hockey Thread
In other news, I stand by my initial evaluation of the Russian team. They are disjointed, passionless, and largely bereft of the team ethos required to get any further than they presently are. They are getting by on goaltending and decent defense, because their offense just went over 100 minutes without a goal - Ovechkin, Malkin, Datsyuk, Kovalchuck - against powerhouses Slovakia and Norway.
Granted, in a short single-elimination tournament goaltending and defense trumps offense; that might be all they need. But I think Finland will murderize them.
Basically, I think the teams that earned byes in group play will be in the medal games. Sweden-USA for the gold and Canada-Finalnd for the bronze. 1-2, 3-4.

All QF games are always 24 hours after the start of play-in game where one of the QF teams participated. So, the schedule on Wednesday starts with Slovenia against Sweden, then Russia against Finland, and then, at 12 ET/ 11CT both Canada and USA will play against their opponents yet TBD.
