Re: The Official Olympic Hockey Thread
Wow just speechless. What a game.
Does the IOC know the only reason the Olympics are 4 years apart is because it was really ******* hard to all meet at one location 100 years ago? We really can't bump these events up to every 3 years at least?

Awesome performance by Oshie. Would have been nice for the USA stars to show up at some point. Parise has been invisible and Kane is doing a helluva job making me dislike him even more.

That's why I like the Olympics. I don't normally watch much hockey outside of the Pens (sometimes Flyers, Devils and Rangers based on my geography), so the opportunity to see these other players that I've heard of is good.
******* Good.

I like having the games alternate every two years.Staggy wrote:Wow just speechless. What a game.

I didn't know he was so good at the shootout...most likely because I turn the shootout off for non Pens games...and really don't care for the Blues.mikey287 wrote:Everyone know who T.J. Oshie is now...? Good. ******* Good.

You get fantasy points for shootout goals?

A game like that is worth NHL players participating in the Olympics. Generating a ton of buzz and rightfully so, it was excellent hockey.

I'm still so pumped...one of the best preliminary games I've ever seen...
I'm not a big shootout either, to tack on to I40's point, but it did not take away from a really good game...
T.J. Oshie is hot buttered popcorn...some of these Western guys, it's great to see some of the Eastern fans get a chance to see them...people that don't get to see Cam Fowler, Oshie, Vladdy Tarasenko, Little Joe, Anze Kopitar and really marvel at them on the big stage...

Obviously this game was different but during a lot of Olympic hockey I forget who I am rooting for and just marvel at some of the play. Especially guys I don't get to see that much.mikey287 wrote::fist:blackjack68 wrote:mikey287 wrote:Everyone know who T.J. Oshie is now...? Good. ******* Good.

It must be great to be a hardcore EPL fan:
You get up, put on some coffee, turn on the game and have breakfast.....and then have the rest of the day free.
I like morning hockey.

Generally, I would have to agree with this.pcm wrote:Being able to repeat the shooter is stupid.
Americans played pretty poorly IMO. Only reason they were in this game because of special teams, then got lucky with the disallowed goal.
It worked out here, but I cannot support a coaching decision to keep sending out the same player over and over and over and over and over again. (Yes I know Oshie leads the NHL this year at 70% shooting, and is ~55% for his career, which is amazeballs good.) It puts unworldly pressure on the guy, and sends a message to the other guys on the bench that they can't be trusted with the game on their stick. Granted, guys like Kane (who has historically been pretty good but has been awful this season) might not be the ones you lean on today. But..... I don't know. Watching it unfold, it was less exciting than it was confusing. Then again, I'm not a Stanley Cup winning coach.
The whole shootout just confused me, what with the repetitive use rule and whatnot. Hate shootouts generally, tho.

Re: The Official Olympic Hockey Thread
USA didn't play their best game with their stars not really showing up, but they still out shot this high powered offense of Russia. 34-31. Hopefully they work a few things out tomorrow morning, have Miller get some work in, win and advance to the quarterfinals.

Re: The Official Olympic Hockey Thread
Basically USA had every rule difference work in its favor... what's the saying, I'd rather be lucky than right? I don't really like the rule differences but I'll take it, no doubt.
Sweden/Latvia on now. With Zetterberg out this game should be more interesting than it would be normally.

And PghSkins, let's not forget about the 3:00 am Eastern game...the team I've really been tough on, Slovakia, was up-ended by the lowly (sorry, P4L) Slovenians 3-1...as much as I hate on the Slovaks, that's a pretty big upset there...great for Slovenia...I hope P4L will weigh in after his celebrations!
