Re: US Olympic Team
He has looked fine to me. Certainly shown plenty to be a great 3rd liner.

Re: US Olympic Team
I'm sure his responsibilities will at least be simple enough playing with Kesler and Kane (I'd call that the 2nd, or even 1st line, going off those two, with the Backes line being the best "shutdown" line in the tourney). I'd switch him and Callahan, though maybe that would imbalance the lines too much.
Oh well, I'm sure they'll all be juggled soon enough anyways.

The American lines TODAY:
Brown-Kesler-Kane
Parise-Backes-Oshie
JVR-Pavelski-Kessel
Pacioretty-Stastny-Callahan
Stepan, Wheeler extras.

I can see Stepan getting a game or 2 with Callahan.
Did the defense not show up?

That USA team might not have the "firepower" that the Canadians have, but that 2nd and 3rd line look awfully good. Really like Parise with Backes/Oshie.

Re: US Olympic Team
Seeing Patrick Kane below Dustin Brown was a surprise at first but after thinking about it I think these lines are brilliant. I understand the initial backlash but I think they'll work out great.
I don't think the "number" of the lines matters, I'm pretty sure the first 3 lines will all get comparable ice time.

Defense last I heard was:
Suter-Fowler
McDonagh-Carlson
Shattenkirk-Martin
Orpik-Faulk

Re: US Olympic Team
I think with the way Pacioretty is playing they need to get him up in the top 9. I'm ok with those lines simply by swapping him in for Brown.
JVR-Pavelski-Kessel
Pacioretty-Kesler-Kane
Parise-Backes-Oshie
Brown-Stastny-Callahan

Really good article on Blysma. His planning and preparation has always been his best suit. Hopefully he can take Wilson's suggestions about making adjustments on the fly...

That's more like it. If you decide to take two guys as a tandem, play them as a tandem.llipgh2 wrote:Dejan reported today that Orpik is paired with Martin today, as the 3rd pairing.meow wrote:Brooks is an extra at this mornings practice.

Martin would be much better used playing with Shattenkirk... nepotism fails...tfrizz wrote:#ShutdownPairmeow wrote:That's more like it. Re: US Olympic Team
Martin has not shown the ability to play with anything but a physical, LHS defender and really excel...Shattenkirk is exactly the opposite of that...I'd be surprised if that worked out...

What a game. Such speed on the USA team. I could only watch chunks of the game, but no matter how (un)well Slovakia played, USA looked....wow!
What was the W. PA reference during the USA-SVK game? I missed it.
Did Doc sneak in his Pirates reference?

I know they mentioned the Pens front office was watching the game. Maybe that was it?Lt. Dish wrote:What a game. Such speed on the USA team. No matter how (not) well Slovakia played, USA looked....wow!

He was talking about Tomas Surovy and how he must have been a fan favorite due to the large Slovakian population in Western PA.

Re: US Olympic Team
Looks like the U.S. really missed Bobby Ryan's goal scoring ability.
