Sweet. My wife's sister and brother-in-law were at the game last night. Looked like a great atmosphere on BTN - saw the last 6 minutes after I was reminded it was still on (after watching the Pens game)
I went to the game last night. I picked the game because they were playing U-mass Lowel which has pens prospect Scott Wilson and I thought a Thursday would be less of a crowd (I was right). Wilson played a good game with 1g 1a. He assisted on the first goal with a good forecheck and chipped the puck low a teammate made a pass to a wide open slot and bang goal (very quick into the game). The period ended 1-0. In the second PSU goalie had a puck covered but Wilson dug at it and it ended up squirting through for his goal (Pens could learn something from this effort). He did take 2 penalties one was a charge that I missed, the other a hooking.
Now for the big news. I was right in picking this game because Bill Freaking Guerin was in the house to I assume check up on Wilson. He was sitting behind me and I look over my shoulder in the second period and I was like that guy looks familiar double take and I turn to my dad and I say thats Bill Guerin he had no clue and I had to point him out 3 times and explain who he was. I got a picture with him and shook his hand during the second intermission I did not see anyone else bother him which kind of surprised me (also made me feel a little bad since I interrupted him but it was intermission what was he going to scout the Zam driver).
In review U-mass 4 PSU 0. Fun game to watch the building is awesome I can only hope this helps hockey grow in the area that Penn State can become a legit presence in college hockey. I would like to go to another game against a rival school to get more of the crazy college atmosphere it was pretty laid back and about 1/4 of the seats were empty.
Was at the B1G home opener today vs. Minn. They hung pretty tough with them. McAdam played out of his mind, so the game was a bit more lopsided than the score indicates. But losing 3-2 to the #1 team in the nation is certainly confidence building.

What a heartbreaking way to lose it though, tie it up, only to fall late. Good things around the corner.
There's talk that Coach Franklin will be in attendance in tomorrow night's rematch. The cynic in me says they chose that one because of TV (vs no TV tonight). Though they were tweeting him meeting the football team tonight, so probably nothing to it.

Game 2 not nearly as close as Game 1, although PSU had some fabulous chances. Playing the #1 team, they could've packed it in, but they didn't; they dug deep and got 2 goals in the 3rd. PSU frequently icing the puck on the PP was frustrating as hell.
5-2 final, but I agree that there are good times ahead.
Franklin wasn't on long, but he revealed he roots for all Philly teams. Penbots will be out in force.
There were a ton of icing calls in game #1 too. Every time PSU had the chance, they were dumping the puck. Might have been the game plan, dump it, get in on the forecheck, hope they make a mistake.
Pegula was rocking tonight. The Nittany Lions won their first B1G game in a 4-0 shutout against Michigan. 3-0 pretty quickly, Michigan pulled their goalie and from there they just held them off. Was a very fun game to be at and I'm happy to see them get the win.

yeah, first year in the B1G, who are all strong teams (other than OSU).
they went 5-9-1 in out of conference play, which is bad, but not lolturrrrrible for how young of a D1 program they are, but then went 3-16-1 in conference play. I really think they'll get better in time. When you consider the big name of PSU, the brand new building, and the excitement in the area for the game (these games are awesome to go to), I think they'll get better. There's no way they rise to a level of national contender any time soon, they just don't have the recruiting base like Minnesota would have, but they'll get there.
