The only part of Louie Eriksson that will be there is his arm because that's the only part that is not injured

Re: Team Sweden
Kinda surprised Sweden didn't take more people from the Swedish leagues, given they play on the large ice all the time.

They have a few concussion issues currently in play: Eriksson, OEL, Steen, and Franzen.SolidSnake wrote:The only part of Louie Eriksson that will be there is his arm because that's the only part that is not injured
Will be interesting to see how long Karlsson remains a good option for them once play starts. I don't watch him a ton, but every time I've seen him, he's been absolutely awful at actually playing defense. You've got to think a lot of teams are going to exploit him out there with the skill they have.

Henrik Sedin is pulling out as he isn't medically cleared to play yet. Being replaced by Backlund.

Backlund tweeted that he has yet to be contacted by Team Sweden.Pruezy11881 wrote:Henrik Sedin is pulling out as he isn't medically cleared to play yet. Being replaced by Backlund.
Other likely scratches include Hamhuis (CAN) and Gaborik (SVK).

Re: Team Sweden
I forget who asked, I think it was Scott Oake on the late HNIC game (but it might have been Gene Principe on Sportsnet West, I don't remember) asked Mikael Backlund about Team Sweden and Backlund said that he wasn't even a reserve list forward, so it seems like a longshot that I would be able to go, but if they call, I'm ready...interesting...

Re: Team Sweden
Sweden is my pick to in gold, such a solid team. All of these guys have experience on the big ice and unlike Russia, this team actually has a defense. Disappointed Hedman didn't make it tough, he is having a hell of a season.

Re: Team Sweden
OK. TSN changed their story from when I read it last. At that time, it had said Backlund was the replacement and now no replacement as of yet. Sorry...I'm that guy.tfrizz wrote:Backlund tweeted that he has yet to be contacted by Team Sweden.Pruezy11881 wrote:Henrik Sedin is pulling out as he isn't medically cleared to play yet. I'm extremely interested to see how Sedin plays without Sedin.

Re: Team Sweden
Nicklas Backstrom is the same basic player as Henrik Sedin. The only real difference is that Henrik is more likely to cycle down low, while Backstrom is more likely to delay (he would be a guy that does the Gretzky turn if the league allowed that still) and wait for a seam to open up from the half boards...both excellent playmakers, both don't rely on speed to accomplish their goals, both are not terrific shooters.
Sweden's top six is not fast. Should be interesting to see how they attack. I could see a mean cycle develop with a lot of those players.

I like Sweden's top six. I like it a lot. The need for speed element is way overblown on an international sheet.

Re: Team Sweden
Yeah, excessive speed is not totally necessary at any level depending on how you attack...the Marian Gaborik's of the world certainly benefit because they made their dollar streaking down the wing, catching the puck in stride and going wide on a d-man...Gaborik can go wide and then cut back underneath the strong side d-man and stuff it in...sure...but yeah, a good coach will get the best out of what he has and not try to play a speed game with a slug like Loui Eriksson...

Re: Team Sweden
The more open space there is...the more speed i want. I dont agree with the idea that speed means less on the bigger ice. I want to mitigate/take advantage of gaps as much as possible.
