Right now, I think it is a toss up between Anaheim and St. Louis to whom is the best in the West. St. Louis's goaltending scares me and if they get Ryan Miller, they become the favorites in either conference.mikey287 wrote:Yeah, oh boy, Kovy, the Blues are so tough to play against right now...add Callahan in that top-9...oh boy...that's a lot of nasty...Kovy27 wrote:Just a funny feeling that it is St. Louis.mikey287 wrote:I'd love him as a rental. Would not go long term deal with him though. Too scary for me.
I can't see Columbus and the Rangers trading again and Not sure what Vancouver is willing to give up.

I'm a huge Jaro Halak fan and also like young Jake Allen...so I'm biased. I think Halak is a very good goalie, but honestly, he needs to face 35 shots per game, not 12...he's one of those goalies...so maybe he's not a great fit...he is desirable around the league though...I wonder if anyone wants to go swapsies with them...Miller, Ward, Anderson I'm not sure...that kind of deal has to really be sharp to work...I recall Elliott for Anderson and Aebischer for Theodore...not a lot of starter (or near starter) for starter swaps for obvious reasons...

I could see Buffalo trading Ryan Miller to STL for Brian Elliot and 1st Rounder. Buffalo then signs Elliot to a contract.mikey287 wrote:I'm a huge Jaro Halak fan and also like young Jake Allen...so I'm biased. I'm holding on to Enroth hoping they just rebuild around him as their goalie.

It would be a savvy move by sather to cut ties with callahan. You just can't give him the money he's demanding - no matter what he means to the team.
Though the move would completely bewilder George McPhee. He probably thought it was a league policy that he had to sign laich to that contract.

Vanek now on the block, after turning down the Isle's contract offer.
Gotta think Min, LA will go after him...

So in the end, the Isles gave up Moulsen for 1/2 a year of an underperforming Vanek. Good management team there on the Island

Re: 2014 NHL Trade Rumor Thread
It was Moulsen, #1 and a #2 for Vanek. Moulsen's contract is up as well so that side is a wash. Moulsen and the #2 for Vanek is okay for just the one year. The #2 represents the upgrade. The #1 hurts though.Trip McNeely wrote:So in the end, the Isles gave up Moulsen for 1/2 a year of an underperforming Vanek. Good management team there on the Island

Being on the trading block doesnt mean you give him up for nothing. They could very well end up getting more now than they gave to get him.

There's no reason for the Isles to Vanek at this point.

Dreger says Callahan actually wants $7m per year, not $6m as had been reported.

If rents is short for parents then they are if they're in West Philly.columbia wrote:Philly rents are high, but not that high.

I wonder if he just doesn't want to re-sign with the Rangers so he's forcing their hand without looking like such a bad guy.

I don't think there's much doubt Callahan could get between 6.5-7 on the open market. 7 is hardly an outrageous ask on his part IMO given the market.
I wouldn't give it to him, but someone would.

How about Buffalo...the prodigal son of American hockey coming home? They have an owner willing to spend, they have a bunch of cheese-eating surrender monkeys on their team...Callahan is from Western NY, the Sabres still have a compliance buyout to use on Ville Leino, I could see it...

I could also see Edmonton dumping dollars on him, thiking he's the answer. Say they trade Eberle for a #1 dman, then sign Callahan to be their Patton, and pick up a veteran backup to go with Scrivens...maybe Vokoun?
