And SpaceX has confirmed separation of the THAICOM 6 communications satellite, which is on its way to geostationary orbit. It will provide communications services for users in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

I believe this also should have been the third and last mission needed for SpaceX to obtain entry into the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) certification program for the U.S. Air Force. Once SpaceX obtains that certification, it can compete against United Launch Alliance (a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Boeing), which currently has a monopoly on government launches for its Atlas V and Delta IV vehicles. I would not be happy right now if I worked for ULA.

I have no qualifications or facts to back this up, but I think this is one of infinite iterations of the universe. Eventually we will all collapse into a massive black hole. And eventually, the black hole becomes so dense that it explodes, causing a "Big Bang". Rinse. Repeat.

regarding PFIDC's question...i think whether it was a "star", specifically, is arbitrary. the cool take away is that all of the stuff that you are comprised of has existed since the beginning of time.

I don't think the theory is that the Big Bang was an exploding star, but the theory about matter ejected from stars comprising much of the physical universe has been around for some time. (Altho I think it has only been fairly recently that scientists have determined that there is organic matter in cosmic dust.)

the theory i'm aware of is that there was a single point (singularity) that exploded, and initially, the only thing that existed in the whole universe was a blanket of hydrogen atoms. the atoms were almost perfectly, symmetrically distributed, but there were some atoms that were too close to others, causing a gravitational pull. one pull leads to a zillion more pulls...the gravity becomes stronger...matter becomes dense and hot at the core of these clusters...and the atoms transform into other materials that make up stars. then the stars get too hot and dense and they explode. the shrapnel becomes planets.

Did a research paper on this 25+ years ago in college. It's called nucleosynthesis. Stars produce energy through fusion, which forms increasingly heavier elements.
