Re: Random Songs
See, I don't like that new style of... I don't even know what to call it. It's part metal, part mall kiddie pop with the whiny pop vocals that people into heavy stuff wouldn't be caught dead listening to. So many of these new bands around too. part metal with the screams and the distortion, and part pop, not even pop rock, just pop with the whiny nasal voices and melodies. not even good clean singing because metal has a ton of incredibly talented clean singers... but these young bands really are mtv poppy. there is no pop in real metal.Factorial wrote:One for Sarcastic:

I am not even saying it's good or bad. That's for the individual listener to decide for themselves. Just saying it's not what i would typically listen to.
This is a new song from a band that I hope is making a comeback. They put out a few really good albums in the 80's. Compare this. Clean singer, but just compare the playing style and the singing style and serious attitude.

^ Yeah, those guys are superb. They used to play with Bill Dickens, another favorite bassist of mine. Brian is phenomenal. I sometimes talk to him on a bass forum. i'm not really crazy about the music they play, but the musicianship is top notch.

Interesting. I love that album, but never knew if it would "work" for people who don't understand the language. So much youthful wisdom about heartache and heartbreak.Sarcastic wrote:^ Gaucho, I"m enjoying those two. Don't know what it is but it's good. I think I'll d/l the album and take a listen.

love the story behind the band name(s)
love the story behind the band name(s)
The band's strange name is a result of a dispute between founding members Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson. The band was initially named "Grand Union," after a nearby grocery store. MacKaye then found the word "skewbald" in a dictionary, and thought it was a better name. Nelson, however, still preferred Grand Union. The two were unable to favor either title, and compromised by giving the band both names

Billy Sheehan > John Entwistle.... but not by much.Sarcastic wrote:Who likes Who? 3 studs making a jam out of it.

Don't know if you know this, but Paul Gilbert is sort of a yinzer-by-address like Christina Aguilera. And I would suggest that there were four musical studs on that stage, but I don't really want to make a fight of it. (We've all heard VHIII, and..... well, it can't exactly be defended, can it?)

Re: Random Songs
I don't know why you always say that. As in 'more than 4 quick notes in a row and gaucho is not happy'. Speed and soloing doesn't take an ounce of feel or emotion out of a song and may, in fact, add to it. Fast can be as emotional, beautiful, as slow playing, it just adds the excitement. Do you not listen to any classical or jazz, both pretty solo-oriented styles?Gaucho wrote:Thankfully, music is art, not sports.
