FoxTrax bring it back

I really liked the glowing puck. Especially the turning red when it went above 70mph. You could see the deflections and everything. Really cool. Could you imagine what they could do these days considering how far technology has come. You wouldn't have to cut a puck in half anymore. It could be so precise that high sticks or did the puck cross the line questions would be easy to answer. I really didn't understand the hate this gimmick received. It seemed to be solely because it was different and new and people especially hockey people hate different and new.

Given smart TV's. It probably could be a feature that could be turned on and off by the viewer.Pavel Bure wrote:I really liked the glowing puck. Especially the turning red when it went above 70mph. I've always thought that it wouldn't be long before sensors were embedded in baseballs and under home plate in baseball. It wouldn't do anything for the vertical aspect, but you definitely could determine the horizontal.
In hockey it would be even easier. When the puck crossed the the line, even under a goalies pads, there'd be no question.
Do you really want to take the human element out of the game though?

In the cases of goal or no goal yes I'd be for removing the human element.

i remember the first time that it was used, I thought, "HOLY CRAP! this is so awesome!!!" after game 5 or 6 I was done with it. I'd rather keep it buried.

Every official should be wearing a go-pro cam, would be an awesome angle for goals and penalties.
Now - mandatory goalie helmet cams would be awesome as well, though that might affect the competitive aspect of the game.

Hopefully in the not too distant future many of these things could be turned on or off - you choose your camera angle, announcers, enhancements (first down marker, nascar car markers). Some of it is happening already with streaming services.

Just wanted to comment on the talent on the ice back then. Holy crap! The West had Gretzky Hull Karyia Murphy and Coffey on the ice at one time!

Re: FoxTrax bring it back
An ECHL ref recently did this for an Elmira-Wheeling game. Theres a pretty cool 12 minute video out there I'll have to dig it up. The biggest take away I got from it is how quickly these guys manuever and react. They go from wide open space to "in the way" in a split second and get right out. Surprised officials don't take more errant sticks or get tripped up.DropEmJayBird wrote:Every official should be wearing a go-pro cam, would be an awesome angle for goals and penalties.

Please, we don't need the game turning into a video game. No thanks.

I want this back. I also think that you should get 3 gold coins each time you check someone. The coins would pop out of the opponents' heads and you just have to skate through them to collect them. The team with the most gold coins at the end of the game gets a 5v3 PP for two minutes, and if they score they save the Princess.

Remember the blue coins in the Legend of Zelda that were worth 5 coins? Let's get some of them.pfim wrote:I want this back. I also think that you should get 3 gold coins each time you check someone. Re: FoxTrax bring it back
This would probably be the way to do it. Offer it was a smart TV add on or app. Turning it on and off would be very cool. The technology when this was first put in place was almost laughable but was cutting edge at the time. Hell they wouldn't even have to make it glow unless they were showing replays that could follow the puck path exactly or tell the watcher just how fast a shot was.pittsoccer33 wrote:Hopefully in the not too distant future many of these things could be turned on or off - you choose your camera angle, announcers, enhancements (first down marker, nascar car markers). IIRC Lemieux not only sacrificed the "C" to Bourque but also the game MVP as well but whatever it's an exhibition game.

Re: FoxTrax bring it back
Can they build brick walls on the goal line and if the goalie makes a few saves in a row, have the wall raise behind him to block the net.
