I'm sure players who don't go to the Olympics will practice. They won't sit around and do nothing.

Nothing organized. And Fleury will be in organized practices in Sochi.

That depends on where he is in the depth chart and ice time availability in Sochi. The #3 goalie doesn't typically practice with the team but takes shots from the coaches after practice. In Vancouver, ice time was extremely limited so the #3s didn't even get a chance to take shots.

Don't really know if it had anything to do with it. Probably doesn't, but...

He made the 2010 Games, and never played. Barely practiced. Since then he has had horrible playoff performances.

He's playing the best hockey in years. Don't want the Olympics to screw it up.
On the flip side, it could be the best thing for him. If he were to go to Sochi, got a chance to play and played well behind a powerhouse team, it could finally get the proverbial "monkey off his back" when it comes to the playoffs.

I'd be surprisd if Fleury makes the team. Luongo, Price, Crawford, Smith are the names I've repeadedly heard in front of MAF's.

Luongo is hurt. He's having an MRI to determine the extent, but it's sounding like a high ankle sprain that could keep him out of the Olympics.

Those are the names being thrown around because they were invited to the summer camp. It's tough for someone to leap frog them, but it may happen.

Fleury has outplayed both Crawford and Smith this season, but I'm not sure he can overcome his playoff demons and make the team.

It definitely doesn't help that he reportedly turned down Hockey Canada's invites to the 2011 and 2012 World Cup tournaments, not to mention being benched in the 2013 playoffs.

I wonder how heavy something like turning down World Cup offers weighs in on something like this.

It depends on the player. A guy like Crosby can turn down the World Cup as often as he likes and he's still going to be on the Olympic team. But if it were to come down to Smith OR Fleury, Smith's going to have the decisive edge because he's accepted the WC invites while Fleury's turned them down.

It's about needing Canada rather than Canada needing you when it comes down to the 3rd G position.

Wild place goalie Josh Harding on IR with an unspecified illness.

Cam Ward was also placed on IR yesterday. I can't remember if I already posted that or not...

To add:

He's already getting overplayed and the rest would do him good

If this is his response to not getting invited to camp, I assume he would come out hard in the playoffs to prove Canada wrong (he'll only not be on the team due to recent playoff performances), and it's not like it can make his performance worse.

If Team Canada goalies are determined by playoff stats, Carey Price hasn't exactly lit em up up up

NHL
GP:30
Wins:9
Losses:17
Sv: .905
GAA: 2.90

And his stats this year, not exactly far and away team canada #1 type numbers.

Shame about Harding - I wouldn't have minded seeing him in there given what he's been through.

I agree with Jose, the less penguins on olympic teams, the better... penguins fan best interest..

and if it lights a fire under any of them for being left off the team, even better.

I vote no for Fleury, Letang, Kunitz, Neal, and Engelland.

With his change in treatment last month, I have a hard time believing it's not related.

German uniforms. Maybe a tribute to Russia's anti-gay laws.
