I don't know, he bit on the (unintentional) pump fake. Still pretty bad, but understandable. If he's playing Kreider's body position and expected shot release, he wouldn't expect the puck to slide along the ice like that at all...

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
I always teach my goalies, if you are going to go down, go down and commit to being down. If you are committed, no routine shots should slip through your legs. Granted, this was not exactly a routine shot, but there is no need for him to move his stick the way he does. Where is he trying to brush it to? Past his own defenseman? Back to Kreider? Into the corner where Kreider, for some unknown reason, ended up after basically giving up on the play and then celebrated like he scored one of the biggest goals of his career? There are some many questions as to why Backstrom did what he did and I cannot think of any reason that he should have flared at the puck like he did. I'm just dumbfounded. I almost always can tell what a goalie was thinking, but not this time.pcm wrote:I don't know, he bit on the (unintentional) pump fake. Still pretty bad, but understandable. I surprised that no one has mentioned this play yet:

Yeah, that was a rather unique play. I saw the video, but not the audio. When did they blow the whistle?ExPatriatePen wrote:I surprised that no one has mentioned this play yet:

John Scott scores, and it wasn't on an empty net.
One of five players all-time with 200 GP to have 2 career goals or less.

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
It was a hiccup by Bernier...Matt Ellis ladled one in from near the other side of the tracks and it was burped up right back to him, Bernier made the first save and Scott, the late man, stuffed the twine stocking...
Bernier and the Leafs have settled in since then though...and lead 3-2...

Iginla scores again for Boston, honestly did he even try when he played for the Penguins?

The Senators coach doesn't blink. He goes minutes without blinking. It freaks me out!

They are due for their fair share. Personally I hope it bites them in the playoffs or right before them.SolidSnake wrote:Not to the BlackhawksMRandall25 wrote:Injuries happen to other teams?

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
Actually it would be the Leafs. The 1st overall seed plays the lowest seeded wild card team which currently is Toronto. The Flyers would play the Caps since they are the 3rd seed in the Metro and Washington is the 2nd seed.KG wrote:If the playoffs started today. Flyers/Pens.....fantastic....

TSN has the Flyers as the 8th seed with 40 points and the Leafs the 7th seed with 43 points?

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
The playoff format changed this season.
The top 3 team with points in each division make the playoffs along with 2 wildcard teams in the conference based on points. The division winner with the most points plays the wildcard team with the least points. The next division winner plays the other wildcard team. Teams seeded 2 and 3 play each other in division.
So if the playoffs started today.
Metro Division
1. Pittsburgh (57Pts)
2. Washington (44Pts)
3. Philadelphia (40Pts)
Atlantic Division
1. Boston (54Pts)
2. Tampa (50Pts)
3. Montreal (49Pts)
Wildcard
1. Detroit (45Pts)
2. Toronto (43Pts)
Division Winner 1 (Pittsburgh) plays Wildcard 2 (Toronto)
Division Winner 2 (Boston) plays Wildcard 1 (Detroit)
Metro Division 2 (Washington) plays Metro Division 3 (Philadelphia)
Atlantic Division 2 (Tampa) plays Atlantic Division 3 (Montreal)
The link I provided in my above post also explains the playoff format.

You can no longer base playoffs off the conference standings.KG wrote:TSN has the Flyers as the 8th seed with 40 points and the Leafs the 7th seed with 43 points?
