i don't think textbook charging is really a thing.

Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice.

it's just a way to penalize something that looks bad, even if you can't exactly explain why. if we're penalizing guys "as a result of distance traveled", i'm not sure why rinaldo isn't in the box after every shift.

From one angle, it looked like Getzlaf threw himself into the boards to buy a penalty and over did it. the other angle made it look like he lost his balance.
