Re: Your irrational pet peeves
People who always call you on speaker phone but then pick the phone up when you answer. So theres always a second or two delay when you say "hello" then a loud noise from them picking up the receiver and they always start talking before they even have the phone to their mouths. Happens almost every work call I get. Is it that hard to hold the phone for 5 seconds until i pick up.?

Re: Your irrational pet peeves
I agree with the Elf on the Shelf Facebook posts pet peeves a few posts back. It stems from the "Look at me!" stigma of Facebook. Wow, you are so clever having your Elf sit amongst a pile of spilled potato chips on the floor.!I would never do that because a) you have a mess you have to clean up that you made just to take a f'n picture and b) you just ruined a perfectly good bag of chips! The person who did this on my timeline has no kids and lives alone. WTF?

I do this a lot when I call people at my work. I usually do it because people rarely pick up when I do my calls.DudeMan2766 wrote:People who always call you on speaker phone but then pick the phone up when you answer. Does picking up your phone call keep you away from my doorstep?FreeCandy44 wrote:I do this a lot when I call people at my work. Speaking of which-
Debt collectors who call you because you have an address, phone number, or name that is the same or similar to someone with a bad debt. Mrs. PghSkins threatened to hunt one collector down the other day if she called again. We suspect this particular deadbeat gentleman had our phone number previously. We get calls for him every few months for the past 12 years. Enough to be irritating, not enough to change the number.
My favorite was: "Yes, is this Mark PghSkins? Are you related to Sam PghSkins in the same town?"
No. And if I was, still no.

People who bring their entire family to Costco and insist on meandering down the aisle side-by-side at a snail's pace. Sure, please do stop to try every sample, I'll wait.

It's the same down town here at State College at lunch time. People walk 4 wide on the side walk, very slowly. Block everything coming towards them and everyone behind them. Then THEY get mad when you ask if you can get by them or if someone is coming the other direction and one of them have to move.GaryRissling wrote:People who bring their entire family to Costco and insist on meandering down the aisle side-by-side at a snail's pace. When community bagels are brought into the office and someone takes half a bagel. You know no one is going to take take that other half.

The singular form of "indices" is "index."
There is no such word as "indicie."
Specific to one conference call yesterday but... Nails on a blackboard.

I'll piggy back on this with the epidemic use of "irregardless"PghSkins wrote:The singular form of "indices" is "index."

Most of my clients are out of Texas. I'd say 80% of them will use "y'all" in an e-mail.
Can y'all handle this?

Most of America uses ya'll (no, not in written form - I agree)meow wrote:Most of my clients are out of Texas. I'd say 80% of them will use "y'all" in an e-mail.

In fact, I'd say the dividing line is probably about Southern Greene County where you'll start hearing it.
Yinz don't have a problem with that do ya?
I find myself saying ya'll all of the time. I wouldn't think of using it in written correspondence though.
Edit: Hmmmm... I guess I should have said "A Large part of" instead of "Most of".

One woman who worked in accounts payable in our Houston office used to start every email with "Howdy." #badtexanstereotypemeow wrote:Most of my clients are out of Texas. I'd say 80% of them will use "y'all" in an e-mail.

UPMC vs Highmark
They are taking out radio commercials attacking each other ala mudslinging politicians.
