How did the Stars end up with a 7 minute pp?

Match penalty on Rinaldo being Rinaldo.
No matter, they have 9 minutes of pp time in the first period and are losing 1-0.
Wonderful.

Rinaldo was chatting with Antoine Roussel and then decided to drop his gloves, throw a punch (miss) and then take down Roussel and as their sliding towards the net connects with a right to Roussel's head...if I had to guess, he got two for instigating, five for fighting, 10 and a game...profpolisci wrote:How did the Stars end up with a 7 minute pp?

5 for fighting without Roussel being penalized for fighting, right?mikey287 wrote:Rinaldo was chatting with Antoine Roussel and then decided to drop his gloves, throw a punch (miss) and then take down Roussel and as their sliding towards the net connects with a right to Roussel's head...if I had to guess, he got two for instigating, five for fighting, 10 and a game...profpolisci wrote:How did the Stars end up with a 7 minute pp?

The Stars got six shots in those 7 minutes causing Razor to nearly suggest the Stars decline the other PP they got later in the 1st.

Flyers have 2 wins this year against teams that would make the post season. They beat the Pens and Detroit a few days ago, when they were missing their entire top line.profpolisci wrote:screw you, Flyers!
2-10-1 against teams currently in playoff position.
They've beat the Florida, Rangers, Islanders(2), Devils, Oilers, Senators(2), Pens, Buffalo, Winnipeg, Nashville, and Detroit.
They've lost to Toronto, Montreal, Carolina(2), Phoenix, Detroit, Vancouver, Pitt, Anaheim, Washington, New Jersey, Winnipeg, Florida, Tampa, Minnesota, Dallas.
Basically the playoff teams beat them consistently and they beat the bad teams. That's not really surprising, but it pretty much shows that their recent resurgence in the standings is because they played a bunch of bad teams. Their current position in the standings is about where they belong and will likely end up. Anywhere between 8th and 13th. I'd guess 9th or 10th.

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
I was at the Flyers-Stars game. The Stars repeatedly ran spots on the video screen ridiculing Flyers fans. I've seen teams do this one time in a game, but not over and over again like the Stars did today.
This board would have loved it. They had one spot, an "ad" for a supposed dating service, where the voiceover said something to the effect of, "Do you live in metropolitan Philadelphia?" and the screen showed a burned-out building. I burst out laughing.
It was odd, though, because about a third of the paying customers today were in Flyers jerseys.
I hope they're not planning the same thing when the Pens are here Jan. 25.

My hope is that the Flyers finish 9th - out of the playoffs, yet middling first round pick. In fact, if they could finish just 1 point above the 9th place Western Conference team, that'd be greaaaaat.

With the new format, they'd have to finish lower than 3rd in the Metropolitan, because I don't see the Metro's 4th place team having more points than the 5th place team in the other division.

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
It's not just the Pens game. The refs are literally sleeping through this NJ/NYR game. They just let a ridiculous sequence go where one of the Rangers dmen was held in a headlock for about 10 seconds after the puck was gone and pulled 5 feet to the boards so he couldn't get back in the play (in the NYR end). When they finally separated, the NYR guy basically slashed, crosscheck, and jabbed at that guy in front of their net at least 10 times. In the course of that, he accidentally basically clubbed the guy over the head with his stick (no injury). About 10 seconds later the NJ forward took a giant chop down on the Ranger player's stick and slung it off to the side of the ice.
Probably 10+ individual things that could have been called but none were.
There were some pretty crazy non-calls in the 1st period as well.

Oh wow, it was even worse than that in terms of stuff you didn't see on camera. Janssen (of course) also took a swip with his stick at the NYR players head (it was Faulk) and hit him in the upper back. Faulk didnt have a helmet either (pulled off by Elias in the headlock).

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
Ryan Johansen (10-12-22) has reached his career high in points in only 29 games. On pace for 63 points. Reminds me a little of Jordan Staal (when he was with the Pens) with his reach and skating/play style. Plagued with inconsistency issues the last 2 years, but seems to have found that zone for himself.

So, Winter Storm Dion Phaneuf decides to hit Miller (from Boston) from behind. No penalty called on the play (how that happens, I don't know). It is also a pleasure listening to Boston's announcers whining about it.

wow. I hate to say that I agree with Edwards and Brick but.....I really don't understand how Phaneuf receives nothing for that. 4 different zebras on the ice and none of them see that?
side note: Bruins need to stop playing the "everyone's against us! we never get the calls!" card.

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
I don't know what it has been, but the last two weeks is about the worst officiating in hockey I have ever seen. There is no CONSISTENCY whatsoever and almost zero control of some games. Lots of blatant stuff that is affecting play going uncalled and then some non existent ticky tacky play 50 ft away from the puck getting called. Its an epidemic.

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
i don't really see any systematic issue here. it's one of those situations where the refs obviously didn't see what happened. that's always going to be part of the game. all it takes is a half second of your focus being diverted and you can miss anything.shoeshine boy wrote:wow.
