By the way, Tavares speed has really improved since joining the league. I didn't really notice it until the last week or two.

He's another player (JT) that just loves the game and loves to improve, just like Sid. He's been a "pro" since he was 15 basically in terms of demeanor...total professional, excellent player.

Probably not underrated any more :pop:
Anyone care to update this list now that the 2013-14 regular season is about 20% underway?

Probably not underrated but Kessel is one of my favorite players to watch. You notice him every time he's on the ice.

Okposo
People think its foolish theory that power forward types take longer to develop, but here's yet another example.

I counter that Helm is in fact overrated. He is basically fast abd defensively competent and is well known for a checker. Sutter, for example, is less acclaimed and significantly better than helm.

Helm is definitely overrated due to the 08-09 playoff run he had. Hasn't really come close to it since.

A guy whose ceiling is "good 3rd liner" can't be underrated on the scale being discussed here. But even on any scale, I wouldn't call helm underrated.

If he played in a more hockey friendly city, I bet he'd have a Norris already.

I was just throwing out a random name.
That said, I wouldn't call Helm overrated.

I'm expecting that he'll get a lot of attention this year. Hoping anyway. He definitely has it in him to be the best in the game and isn't far off.

I think Hossa -- over the stretch of his entire career -- wins this for me. He's been a top 10, at times a top 5, player for a number of years. He's probably outside that now, but he's never been in the coveration as one of the best. His media moments consist of being traded for Heaty, Traded to Pittsburgh, signed by Detroit, and signed to a questionable contract by Chicago.

I remember when Francis was the popular choice for most underrated player in the league. How underrated can you really be when so many people recognize you as such?
