Looks like they are freeing up some room to sign Bryzgalov. Also, probably not the only trade for them.

I kinda like Ladislav Smid. Horak is nothing special. Kind of like Jeffrey...he belongs in the NHL but it's not quite clear why. Brossoit is a decent goalie prospect, basically just starting over the development curve of Olivier-Bellavance Roy except with another "random" outcome...as Roy hasn't been doing so hot.

Flames are without Giordano for weeks, and Smid fills in the defense and shot blocking side of it. Not sure how great of a fit he'll be in Calgary's more up-tempo style...but we'll see.

It does not, Penny. He'll receive two paychecks. A big one from the Flyers and a not so big (but will still be surprisingly big according to one source) from Edmonton.

Not much magical about Horak. Brossoit has decent upside. Like a less talented version of Tristan Jarry.

My notes on Horak, not that most people here would have any reason to know who this is...just like Flames fans wouldn't know who Dustin Jeffrey was if he bit them in the face...

Roman Horak (C) - Detailed-oriented, two-way centerman that plays a safe style. He's eager to show off his attention to detail, readily covering for pinching defensemen, jumping in and offering good support or being a diligent backchecker. He's got a very good first step and fine speed. It has room for improvement still. He doesn't seem to have a lot of confidence with the puck and doesn't like it on his stick very long. Hasn't shown many great demonstrations of skill or finesse at the NHL level, but it might be buried in there somewhere. Shows a good head for the game, has played a North American style game since he's been in the league. Needs to get stronger and gain some confidence if he wants to tap some of that untapped offensive upside. Otherwise, he'll be more of a role player at this level.
