Just checked the box score and no penalty called on Winchester for that elbow.

this sentiment is going around, but it's not a big deal. there was no call because there are 2 refs and a million things to look at. if the act was observed, it would have been penalized. but they're never going to be able to see everything, and that's not outrageous. it will just be outrageous if those with the benefit of replay don't act.

before the kunitz trade, there were rumblings of a whitney for st louis possibility. i was salivating at that, but the majority thought that tampa was getting the better deal.

Whitney's value was much lower than I thought. Kunitz blows. He may be the Pens best ES wing, but that is more an indication of the Pens not having any good ES wings. He tries hards and is a decent skater, but is a borderline top 6 type wing. He was on waivers a few seasons ago and absolutely sucks during the playoffs. He is not a top goal scorer at all and had his best season as the 3rd wheel on the Selanne/MacDonald line. He isn't even a proven #2 guy on a line and he has declined a bit the past few seasons.

Tangradi was invisible at the WJC and is posting his OHL stats as a 20 year old.

This is a classic example of selling a player at his lowest value. Not a good move IMO.

Easy on Drafty everyone...he's not as far off people make it seem...to be fair though, Draft, Tangradi didn't turn 20 until last week or whatever...but no, Kunitz isn't that good...he's a hard working, gritty winger, but he doesn't have a ton of skill, or an excellent shot...he wasn't what I was expecting in a deal, I wanted someone talented...

Hopefully he's a guy that can catch on playing on a good line here in Pittsburgh (like Ekman did with Thornton and Cheechoo...but we all know how that went)...and Tangradi is still a mystery despite his play in the O this year...hopefully he's the type that gets better when he turns pro, but there are a lot of reservations about him still...

Not to say that Kunitz hasn't improved in his time here, like Dupuis, but here's two people that pride themselves on really knowing the game well - or so they think - not too happy about the return. Though, I don't think either of us were in love with Whitney at the time anyway...

I recall a couple people thinking Tangradi was the centerpiece for some reason. As far as Kunitz though, no one had really had a chance to learn that Crosby was going to absolutely thrive on a line with high end sandpaper guys. Of course since then, either Crosby has made both better, or each has learned to play with a guy that can get the puck on your stick out of nowhere and learned what to do with the puck when its coming at them.

Yeah, some people were more excited with the upside of Tangradi rather than Kunitz...it's that whole grass is always greener thing we have here (and other places, certainly).

We got a winger for Sid? That's nice...I can't wait until this mystery prospect becomes a winger for Sid! We really need a winger for Sid and this prospect could be that...can we recall him from junior?

I can almost guarantee I can find posts that suggested that. Definitely posts that suggested he would make the team out of camp the next year.

No question. When did we have a forward prospect project like that? One that offered to fill a need, that is. Our big "prospects" like Crosby, Malkin and Staal all stepped in as soon as they could (Malkin was caught in high stakes game of world diplomacy and international intrigue)...Esposito spent little time here and was a center also, so there wasn't as much hoopla. Who else did we really fawn over in that fashion? I guess Luca Caputi is a name to consider. Other than that, we go back to the Generation X years...and frankly, I don't want to go back there...

Only a matter of time before Ryan Stone breaks out and scores his first NHL goal...

We got to sit and stew in the Big Dog's anticipatory juices...the suspense nearly killed us.

Caputi and Tangradi were a good 1-2 punch over a couple years. Is Malone they only forward drafted and developed into a real NHL player since the early 2000s?
