I'm an Orpik partisan and think it would be appropriate, especially under the outlined conditions.
However, I wouldn't expect it to happen.

Brooks is the penguins most decorated defenseman; from start of his career to whenever it ends.
#1 pick, most games played on defense, cup winner, silver medalist, alternate captain.
But , I too am a blind brooks fan~ despite all of the years he's been traded. Hanging number #44 should be given consideration at the proper time.

Ring of honor, but he's gotta be tragic or HHoF to get retired, IMO.

Brooks needs to play 1000+ games for the Pens, then I could maybe see it happening. But he's only at 640 so far, so I'd say that's a longshot.

Brooks has played 646 games. And if you include playoff games 733.

1000 games could be extremely difficult because he lost 2 seasons.

Yup.

82 from the lost season, plus 32 lost from last year, and he's at 760 (if you're using 646 as the base). Would still need 3 full healthy seasons to make it to 1000, if we hadn't lost 114 games since he came into the league.

Let's say Brooks Orpik stays with us til the end of his career. Let's call that another three or four years on top of this one...let's say we get another Stanley Cup and maybe another SCF appearance at that time, he's a top four d-man for one, kinda a #5ish for the other, doesn't matter which. Even without adjusting for lost games due to work stoppages, Orpik is the longest tenured Penguin in franchise history, he's the only player that's ever played 1000 games in a Penguins uniform (only two players are above 800 even, Jagr [806] and Lemieux [915]).

He's never finished top-10 in anything notable, he's never been close to being voted for any award (last year, he finished t-18th in Norris voting thanks to a renegade local voter of some sort, it's the only vote for anything in his career)...does the 44 go up?

I am not an Orpik fan AT ALL but if he played his entire career with just the Pens and had over 1000 games, I could see it happening.... but basically just for that reason.

I think that's a big IF. It's pretty unlikely Orpik is a Penguin next season unless he takes a significant pay cut. Again.
