I read a piece yesterday that explained why Bryz is going to play in the ECHL. Apparently there's an NHL team interested in him but they won't sign him since he didn't attend any training camps and hasn't played hockey since April. By signing in the ECHL, he'd be able to sign an NHL deal and join his new team without passing through waivers (a la Nabokov).

So it sounds like his signing in Vegas is basically a combination of a quick tryout and/or training camp as well as a paper transaction to avoid waivers.

Correct, which is apparently why he didn't go to the KHL despite opportunities being present.

From what I read, it was just a conditioning stint. No plans for him to stay.
