I wonder if Whitney is done. He would be a good commentator.

Does your "We're sorry to inform you that you've been waived" letter have the Panthers' number on it?

Everyone cleared waivers yesterday (including John-Michael Liles) except for Ryan Stanton (CHI -> VAN). No frills, depth defensive d-man. Organizational belief in Vancouver to have 8 or 9 NHL caliber d-men.

Not a FA move, but Drouin got sent down to the Q. The thought being he needs to bulk up before being able to compete vs men. I guess Tampa will have to lean on St Louis again.

Sounding like 8 x 8 for Phil Kessel in Toronto. Flyers have signed Hal Gill to a 1 yr deal at $700K

I was expecting to see Kessel get $6m per, in line with all the UFA's signed this summer... just blown away that he would get $8.

Toronto is the biggest market in the entire NHL. they will be forever stuck with paying inflated salaries.

Kessel's stats are on par with Claude Giroux. He's making Giroux money.

Blame the Flyers.

Fine with me, we've got our 3 big numbers locked up, not like we're gonna be adding anybody of that calibre in the forseeable future anyways.

perhaps but the entire world knows that we pay Sid a helluva lot less than he'd make if he ever hit the open market.

...so? The Penguins have Crosby for $8.7 million and the Ducks have Perry and Getzlaf $8.25 million and the Leafs have Kessel for $8.0 million. Thats an advantage. The advantage doesn't go away because Crosby "could" get more elsewhere.
