Buffalo/Toronto brawl
John Scott is a waste of a roster spot.
Phil Kessel looks like he was poking for a cookie.
David Clarkson gets an auto 10 gamer for leaving the bench.
Bernier and Miller fight.
In a Pre-season game....totally worth it.

Kessel deserves a few games for the slashing. Also, the end of that first is scary and should be all the evidence needed for the helmet rule during fights.

I don't know which was worse, the brawl or the idiot announcers. I was waiting for one to yell "The peanut vendors are standing up to them!"

Clarkson def came off the bench.
You can see it here in this video right when Scott and Kessel start going at it...

That whole sequence though is just pathetic.

Re: Buffalo/Toronto brawl
I like Kessel's use of the stick early on to make sure he doesn't fight Scott. Then he looks like an idiot coming back later with the stick. I just wonder what was said to get that going. Also, Bernier somehow didn't look very awkward early on in that fight. Like the least awkward a goalie has ever looked in a fight.

Re: Buffalo/Toronto brawl
According to Kessel, Scott said "I'm going to jump you."
What a punk. So much for the instigator. The announcers say "and people want to take fighting out of the game...?" IMO this has no place in the game.
Kessel should have stopped at one whack. Leafs will be short a few players to start the season... I'd be pissed if I was a fan.

One thing that video pointed out to me... how insane goalie equipment has become. They looked like snowmen trying to fight.

Re: Buffalo/Toronto brawl
If the suspensions go down as planned (Clarkson and Kessel), the Leafs will have salary cap issues and may not be able to skate a full lineup for 10 games.
How do the Leafs have salary cap issues? I can see a team with bonfide stars (Penguins, Caps, Red Wings) having issues, but the Leafs? Good grief.

John Scott did exactly what he wanted to do, and Phil took the bait. If Phil Kessel was smart, he'd have let him try.pcm wrote:According to Kessel, Scott said "I'm going to jump you."

Phil Kessel was smart, and used a weapon to keep his distance. If he hadn't come back later, he probably wouldn't have faced anything.

Using your stick like that is inexcusable. I hope he gets a very long suspension.

A 6'8'' goon jumping a 6' scorer/playmaker is also inexcusable. I don't really blame Kessel. Fight or flight instinct kicked in.

Re: Buffalo/Toronto brawl
He could have fought fairly using his fists (which would probably have not ended we'll for him), or he could have turtled and got his team a power play. But using your stick is both cowardly and dangerous. Google Wayne Maki - Ted Green.MRandall25 wrote:A 6'8'' goon jumping a 6' scorer/playmaker is also inexcusable. I don't really blame Kessel. What the hell was Clarkson doing? It's not like he came out and saved a guy... he came out and couldn't even find anyone to fight for a few seconds. That was so stupid.

Re: Buffalo/Toronto brawl
You should not use your stick as a weapon, but I do have to give Kessel some credit in that he swung his stick low in more of a defensive effort. At least he wasn't totally dumb swinging for the guys head or something. I can tell you what if a giant goon like that lined up across from me and said they would jump me I wouldn't be fighting him. Now would I have went down swinging my stick probably not, but I will never know what that situation is like.
