Re: Around the League: Transactions
My thoughts too, Seguins been good, even if he hasn't lit the world on fire the way it may be expected of a #2 overall selection. Eriksson is good too, has produced more on the stat sheet but obviously doesn't have the same promising future as Seguin does. If the deal was Eriksson for Seguin straight up with maybe a few other prospects involved, I could see it, but Peverley would have been the deal breaker for me. The reason Boston beat us, outside of great defense, was their all-around forward depth, and this deal seems to be moving away from that. Considering they're already losing Horton and probably Jagr, I don't think getting rid of another two solid NHL forwards to get one with flashier stats is the right move. But then again, what do I know?pens2005 wrote:I'm not getting how Boston made out in this deal. Not a big fan of Eriksson at all to be quite honest.
I really like Tyler Seguin. I think at his age he's only going to get much, much better.
I think Dallas made out in this deal big time!
And yeah, there's gotta be something up with Morrow. We've been hearing about how promising and NHL-ready he is from the media for almost two years now. It was questionable enough when we gave him up but if he was really that good a prospect and close to being an NHL contributor I don't think Dallas gives him up with Erkisson without asking for a little more from Boston.

Eriksson is a 70-80 point player while having a Selke caliber game if my memory serves me correctly. He's very good.

Re: Around the League: Transactions
Both Letestu and Lovejoy were moves that benefitted both sides. Especially Letestu, while serviceable, was never going to be a regular on a healthy Penguins team.pcm wrote:Well Shero hasn't been around long enough to really say (small sample size). Esposito is the classic case of a prospect smartly moved... But Lovejoy and Letestu have both gone on to fill solid roles in the NHL. The case is still out on Tangradi (despite what 99% of LGP'ers say).largegarlic wrote:I think this is right. Can anyone think of an example of a prospect he moved in a trade who went on to be a very successful NHLer? I'm not counting guys he just didn't re-sign (e.g. Moulson) or fringe NHLers (e.g. Carcillo). The Pens might have problems with their scouting leading into the draft, but it seems like they do a pretty good job assessing the prospects they actually get into the system.Gaucho wrote:GMRS usually seems to have a pretty good idea of who he can afford to let go (or maybe even who he should get rid of). Maybe he knew he didn't give up as much as people thought he did when he traded Morrow for Morrow.
Pure speculaton, of course.

His cap hit is going to be $8.25 mil per year. To me, that's a pretty big overpayment. Giroux is great, but nowhere near $8.25 mil/per great.mac5155 wrote:$6 million on the books, $3 million under the table :pop:canaan wrote:Giroux signs an 8 year extension
You knew he would get that kinda cash, but still.

Just a note, this deal is not done. I don't know if more will be added or whatever, but at the moment this deal is not 100% confirmed. Not sure what the hold up is.

Hawks blogger John Jaeckel(sp?) is also reporting that the Flyers are very likely to sign Ray Emery tommorrow. Where are they getting the $$$$. After Lecavalier they are over $300,000 over the cap. I know they can LTIR Pronger but they still can't exceed the cap by more than 10% until they do that.

Re: Around the League: Transactions
Probably, but I don't think that's it. This is a mutual breakup by most accounts. Frankly, I'm surprised that the Oilers are getting positive assets for Horcoff and his salary. Larsen is a decent PMD #6 and then the 7th rounder in 2016, but the latter is probably the least valuable asset I've ever seen moved in a deal before...Kovy27 wrote:Horcoff have a NTC?mikey287 wrote:Just a note, this deal is not done. Ray Emery was fantastic for the Blackhawks. However, the Flyers are not the Blackhawks. So, this should be entertaining.mikey287 wrote:That can't fail. I'm all for it.npv708 wrote:A goalie tandem of Steve Mason and Ray Emery?

Emery was, is and always will be a horrible goalie. That's never gonna change. I don't care what the Flyers pay for him (2 years, $3 million per? whatever), as long as they get him and not someone good...

Re: Around the League: Transactions
Philly is still bad on D as well. Sometimes I wonder what Holmgren is thinking. The Flyers are always going to be the bridesmaids and never the bride with him at the helm, and Snyder playing puppeteer in the background.Kovy27 wrote:There isn't much out there that is "good".
