End of an injury filled era.
How many generations forward will the Isles be paying on that buyout? Are they even done with Yashin yet?
For a team that has money concerns, they sure don't mind paying guys who don't play for them anymore.

That's not a loophole, that's how they were designed to work. Islanders buy him out => he can't sign with the Islanders again. I assume any attempt to trade him to the Islanders would also be rejected.
The loophole was something like... trade DiPietro to VAN, VAN buys him out, NYI sign him cheaper.

Forgot about that deal...Mets will be paying Bonilla 1.1 million a year until 2035. Also, Bonilla is 50.

Matt Hunwick and Greg Zanon on waivers as well...
I remember Zanon's name being bandied about here after the Cup win and Scuderi's departure.

He'd have been a great fit on the 3rd line for the Pens for that price.

They just can't help themselves. What exactly is the point of buying out Briere if they're just going to replace him with another aging, fading player? Why the need to commit to him for five years? Don't they still need a goalie?
