Predict the Compliance Buyouts
I haven't seen much on which players will be bought out of their current contracts. Any speculation? I think the Pens will buy out Jokinen, and the Flyers Briere and Bryz.

Well, the Flyers already announced they're releasing Briere 4 days ago: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nh ... n/2442533/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pens won't buyout anyone. I'd wager most teams are in the same boat.

I also just read the Pens don't plan to use one, as reported by Rossi. I knew the Flyers announced they would buy out Briere.

Agree with the Pens, but there are too many UFA's out there this year and next for teams not to use the compliance buyout as an option to make some much needed upgrades.MRandall25 wrote:Pens won't buyout anyone. I'd wager most teams are in the same boat.

Re: Predict the Compliance Buyouts
How exactly do the buyouts work with regard to the cap? I was messing around with the buyout calculator on Capgeek, and it shows a reduced portion of the salary counting against the cap going forward when a player is bought out. For example, it showed that if the Pens bought out Jokinen, they would have to pay 2/3 of what he is owed ($2 million) spread out over two seasons. So, that $1 million would count still count against the cap for this year and next.
Are the two buyouts allowed by the CBA that are always being referenced two buyouts that don't count against the cap going forward?

Re: Predict the Compliance Buyouts
Teams are allowed 2 compliance buyouts under the new CBA. They must be used in a certain time frame (end of finals until June 30 - extended a little this year) this summer or next summer.
Players bought out under this compliance buyout have a % of remaining contract (based on age) paid by the team and there is ZERO cap ramification to the team.
Here's your money, thanks for playing, hands wiped clean, etc etc.
I think the normal buyouts are still in play but teams aren't going to use them unless they use up their 2 (see: Habs) or after next summer's window.

As long as we have Holmgren and Philly, there will never be a dull offseason.
I love seeing what spaghetti they try and get to stick every June-August.

@RandyJMiller: I phoned Bryz a second time to ask about #flyers buying him out. He said he doesn't want to talk & hung up on me again

Gotta hand it to a team that gets rid of the only player who shows up for them.

James Mirtle @mirtle 14s
Bryzgalov will end up making about $40-million for his two years for the Flyers.

Pronger's contract is monetary only at this point - he'll just remain on LTIR until it expires.viva la ben wrote:After Philly uses their two buyouts they still have how many more years of Pronger?

Re: Predict the Compliance Buyouts
4 years and even though LTIR doesn't exist during the off-season, you can be 10% over the cap and his cap hit is less than 10% of the actual cap so it really is a monetary amount as stated.tfrizz wrote:Pronger's contract is monetary only at this point - he'll just remain on LTIR until it expires.viva la ben wrote:After Philly uses their two buyouts they still have how many more years of Pronger?
