Re: George R.R. Martin
Wow, finally saw THE episode. That was craziness. Definitely did not expect that.
What was the significance of the music being played and the guy wearing chainmail (or whatever it's called) under his sleeve?

The song was The Rains of Castamere which is a Lannister victory song written about Tywin's pwnage of a noob. It was the signal to start the... Festivities.
Bolton wearing armor was an additional sign that something wasn't right.

Re: George R.R. Martin
To add to what wicked child said, Bolton wearing armor meant he was prepared for combat. Why would a guest where chainmail at a peaceful wedding? If you noticed, Rob was wearing finery not meant for combat.
In the books the Red Wedding was met with more resistance by the Stark army inside the hall. The GreatJon Umber (a character in season one that was never shown again) was tricked into a heavy drinking contest to make him easier to subdue. As his name might suggest, he was one tough s.o.b.
On the show, it was a totally one-sided massacre.

Yeah, RW definitely made me delve much deeper into the story...had some things spoiled for myself, but now I simply have to start reading.

I've read the first book. Is it safe to read the second/third books without spoiling the show?

2nd yes, if reading he 3rd stop when you get to the Red Wedding, Season 3 is only the first half of Storm of Swords.Admin wrote:I've read the first book. Is it safe to read the second/third books without spoiling the show?

You are safe to read book 2 and part of book three. I'd stop after the red wedding.

Are you going to stop reading and then wait for the show to commence? How aggravating.Admin wrote:I've read the first book. Is it safe to read the second/third books without spoiling the show?

Re: George R.R. Martin
Book 3 should be finished in Season 4 and they might get into some of 4 and 5... But with the way 4 and 5 are broken up... You might have to wait a couple years to read them... They're not linear like the first 3... They're mostly concurrent.

Re: George R.R. Martin
Just a warning: if you start reading the books and get to the Red Wedding in book 3, there is a 93.2% chance you will keep reading on...that's when the book really starts to pick up, and so much is happening around that point in the book it's pretty incredible.

This probably doesn't need spoilered:

I'm still taken aback by some of the reactions of non-readers. I'd the people who seriously stop watching the show because of the Red Wedding failed to really pay attention so far. Or maybe they confused Fantasy with fantasy.

I'm more puzzled about the whole video taping a reaction thing? Do they just film themselves whenever they watch tv? I guess I understand some of the larger groups that may know what's coming but the individuals??

Book readers knew it was coming, so they set up a camera to see their friends' reactions.Letang Is The Truth wrote:I'm more puzzled about the whole video taping a reaction thing? Yup. As a book reader, the reactions of those watching the show are pure gold.Spangler wrote:Book readers knew it was coming, so they set up a camera to see their friends' reactions.Letang Is The Truth wrote:I'm more puzzled about the whole video taping a reaction thing? What about the people that were watching it themselves? Or what appears to be alone? Or the reaction when Toronto blew the lead against Boston in game 7?Spangler wrote:Book readers knew it was coming, so they set up a camera to see their friends' reactions.Letang Is The Truth wrote:I'm more puzzled about the whole video taping a reaction thing?
