I think that it will be difficult for casual sports fans to take the NHL seriously as a sport, as long as the "culture" of the league is that the refs should let stuff like that go. One guy tackles another guy, the tackled guy punches the other guy in the head...and it was a bad call. It's not a bad call in any sport where the rules are actually enforced.

i guarantee that what you're describing has no impact on whether or not casual sports fans start liking hockey

I take back my 9 out of 10 comment if it was deflected. I saw him change the shooting angle to get Howard moving to his right, then shoot left - which makes a slightly tricky shot even if there's no deflection.

Seabrook said it best, most of the shooters just try to shoot hard and get it on net. Make the goalie make a save. It was a nice shot though.
