next time you see a Red Wings fan whining about the officiating in the 2009 SCF (and they all do it) kindly point out that gift forever and ever.

so...take the goal out of the mix for a sec. it's conceivable that a whistle should have blown for matching minors there, right? dude got body slammed, sure. but he did throw a punch afterwards. it's not the worst call i've ever seen. it just happened at the worst time i've ever seen.

To be fair, Detroit interferes on every single play and a few minutes before the goal, CLEARLY highsticked Kane in the face directly in front of a referee.
So why wasn't that called?
Why did they wait until a goal was scored to make ANY call at all???
They don't call the game as they see it, they call the game based on situation plays.

It's just not a call that's made in the final minute of a game 7

Hilarious watching that again......He saw the goal scored and then simultaneously calls the penalties.....
Wow man, thankfully it's not my team involved with this game.

Re: Other NHL games
I was always think of a wave-off as a goal is scored in any game I'm watching. I was thinking, "Welp, that counts" just as Doc yelled "It's being waved off!"
Surreal moment.

Re: Other NHL games
AT BEST the goal should count and the play should have resumed at center ice 4v4. They've called penalties after goals before

Re: Other NHL games
They made the call because the Hawk threw a punch. Bad call? Nope. Usually gets made late a game? Also nope. It's not the ref's fault it occurs on a rush for one team. That type of thing happens all of the time when a call behind the play is made. I don't feel sorry for the Hawks. They'll probably win anyway.

Re: Other NHL games
I think the NHL believes that interference is an accepted part of Detroit's game plan. The refs probably feel they can't call a penalty on every play. They wouldn't have to. If they enforced it from the get-go the Wings would adjust unless they want to lose a lot.Matthew Monstar wrote:Grunthy wrote:To be fair... interference should have been called for Howard getting ran into.

That's what I love about the "well they can't call it every time".... Yeah, but if they call it the first few times, it will stop.NashvilleCat wrote:I think the NHL believes that interference is an accepted part of Detroit's game plan. Re: Other NHL games
little jabs like that happen dozens of times a game. They tend to let them go, especially after a guy cheap shots you in the face, and then jumps on you so you can't get up.

Re: Other NHL games
They didn't call the goalie interference or the blatant trip that led to the breakaway. Stuff happens, too bad for the Hawks. OT for us.
