Also, Glenn Healy reported NHL/NHLPA will consider a "carry-over" playoff penalty...

If a player takes a minor penalty late in a game, could "carry over" into next game, assuming series is not over.

Wait... I haven't been following the Calder cup series, but last time I "looked in" they were down (was it 3-1) to Providence... You mean they came back and won that series?NashvilleCat wrote:WBS 4 Crunch 2 with seconds left.
WBS looks like they're going to take a 1-0 series lead

Are they referring to 5 and 10 minute majors? They can't be talking about minor penalties, right? That would just be absurd.Tybrus wrote:No, just no.Shakes wrote:Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC 11m

Down 3-0 and won it. 5-0 in Providence in game 7.ExPatriatePen wrote:Wait... I haven't been following the Calder cup series, but last time I "looked in" they were down (was it 3-1) to Providence... You mean they came back and won that series?NashvilleCat wrote:WBS 4 Crunch 2 with seconds left.

Fantastic game by Andrew Shaw tonight. I admit to barely even knowing who he was before his 2 goals in this game. He stepped it up and the Wings better bring it for Game 6 because I don't like their chances at all if it gets back in Chi-town for a Game 7.

Aside from the fact that it's completely ridiculous to carry over, I bet this will frankly have the opposite effect... instead of preventing players from taking penalties in the final 2 minutes, it will make the refs less likely to call any penalties during that time (well, even moreso than usual).

It prevents moron players from acting ridiculous in a game that is already over.the wicked child wrote:Terrible. Horrendous. Disgusting. etc.Shakes wrote::shock:Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC 11m

Re: Other NHL games
That sounds great except for when the refs start not calling penalties because they don't want to affect both that game and the next one. These are the NHL refs we're talking about...pens2005 wrote:It prevents moron players from acting ridiculous in a game that is already over.the wicked child wrote:Aside from the fact that it's completely ridiculous to carry over, I bet this will frankly have the opposite effect... instead of preventing players from taking penalties in the final 2 minutes, it will make the refs less likely to call any penalties during that time (well, even moreso than usual).

To be fair, almost all media outlets do it at this point. All groan-worthy.

The wall street journal did this as far back as I can remember reading it (into the 70's).Shakes wrote:To be fair, almost all media outlets do it at this point. All groan-worthy.
I have seen the practice expand across sports media in the past decade or so.
I actually enjoy it where it's done correctly. I think the Shaw/Show fails though.
IMHO, a good pun is a play on meanings, not a play on similar sounding words.

Re: Other NHL games
I think it was Shaw who also drilled Kronwall into the boards in the 3rd. Awesome hit on a gutless player who needs to be dealt a taste of his own medicine more often. I'm not sure if Kronwall was hurt or if he was confused that one of his teammates didn't step in front of him and hide him from danger like usual.

NHL.com is especially bad, though. They need to hire some Brits.Shakes wrote:To be fair, almost all media outlets do it at this point. All groan-worthy.
If they were any good, they'd used Don't Toews Me Bro! last night.
