She was being stupid. Stupidity is gender-blind.

Thomson: “Right after the goal when you were on the ice with Daniel. Right after he scored. You remember?”

Keith: “I went off the ice and took a minus. I don’t know. What are you talking about?”

Thomson: “Nothing. Just checking.”

Keith: “What did you see?”

Thomson: “It looked like maybe there was a penalty that went undetected. You seemed a bit frustrated.”

Which led to:

Keith: “Oh, no. I don’t think there was anything. I think he scored a nice goal. The ref was right there. That’s what the ref saw. We should get you as a ref maybe, eh?”

Thomson: “Yeah, maybe.”

Keith: The first female … ”

Thomson: “I can’t skate, though.”

Keith: “The first female referee. You can’t play probably either, right? But you're thinking the game like you know it? Okay, see ya.”

He never said "You can't play because you're female". If this was to a guy like Brooks (and lord knows Torts has given it to him plenty of times), no one would care. I mean, if you really read into more than what it is, you get something sexist. All I see is him commenting that she'd be the first female referee. The stuff about how she can't skate/play and how she doesn't know the game is general. He would've said that to a male reporter and no one would give two ****.

Keith is notorious for being a short with the media. I saw nothing wrong with his comments personally.

I heard about the outrage yesterday on the Radio...immediately following hearing the audio. I was confused. She would be the first female ref and if she can't skate, she can't play.

It was rude as hell for sure. If I was his coach I would have smacked him in the head. But, I agree, it wasn't really sexist.

They're good. And trying to peg individual games on them (like this game that they're winning, with a player that's never played a pro game before playing top-six minutes) and saying, "they're not that good" when we just actually lost to an inferior team the night before...

It's really quite obvious what I'm trying to say I believe. I mean, earlier in the thread, I even said, "they aren't a super team or anything" and noted teams that could take them in the playoffs handily...but yet somehow it's misconstrued as "they should be handed the Cup" ...that has to fall on the reader there, not the writer, respectfully...

I'm sorry I'm not trying to make you out to be some Blackhawks fanboy or anything. That interferes at times with me. I just never liked the Hawks ever let alone now. With players like Carcillo, (I like to beat up taxi drivers or whatever he did) Kane, (Generic Crosby) Toews, and a crappy goaltending tandem (especially with one of them being Emery and I never liked him with Ottawa or Philly) that is somehow holding together. The fact the Blackhawks ended up lucking out being in the cup finals against Michael Leighton ( talk about lucking out ). I never liked Roenick or Chelios when they played for the Hawks either. It's just for some reason they annoy the hell out of me. Not to mention their goal song. Only person I even like is Q.
