Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
My local Irish Pub has Bluepoint Hoptical Illusion on Tap. I'm headed there in a few minutes.
The alcohol content isn't extraordinary, but I swear I can only drink 1/2 the number of these than say Stella or Becks.
1.064 OG and 66 IBU’s 6.8% ABV

I'm having Brooklyn's Black Ops as my post tax submission reward. It's pretty good--a stout aged in bourbon barrels that's really smooth and drinkable, despite being 10.5%.

My aunt is coming into town this weekend. She lives in Maine. She is bringing me four bottles of Allagash FV13. Boom. Boom. Boom.

Tried my first sour tonight. Monks Flemish Sour Ale. Not bad... was turned off by the aroma and first sip but it grew on me.

Victory Swing session saison is pretty good. very light, carbonated a little more than I like, but still not bad. has and interesting almost peppery aftertaste.

Flower Power IPA from Ithaca brewing. Wow... one of the best beers I've had... just delicious. Can't wait to visit the brewery in July

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I've had 4 Ithaca beers... 1 I like a lot (Groundbreak - although Kraftster has a much different opinion of this one), 1 that was ok (Pale Ale) and 2 that were meh (Nut Brown and Apricot Wheat)... Not sure I'd put them on my list of places to visit based on that.
FP sounds pretty good though... I need to try it at some point.

As part of the Pittsburgh craft brewing week, I had a sour from Penn Brewery (Fakin' the Funk), which was pretty solid, and a pretty good rye Saison from Church Brew Works, D'Pomme (I think). Neither was as good as some of the high end versions, but both were pretty good local brews.

Where did you try these? I read the article about both last week and really want to give them a try.largegarlic wrote:As part of the Pittsburgh craft brewing week, I had a sour from Penn Brewery (Fakin' the Funk), which was pretty solid, and a pretty good rye Saison from Church Brew Works, D'Pomme (I think). Ha, yeah, not a huge fan. Its what I'd call an "east coast" take on a saison. If you like hops, though, I could see these sorts of saisons being pretty cool.the wicked child wrote:I've had 4 Ithaca beers... 1 I like a lot (Groundbreak - although Kraftster has a much different opinion of this one), 1 that was ok (Pale Ale) and 2 that were meh (Nut Brown and Apricot Wheat)... I've seen this at two different gas stations near my house:
I'm not sure what to make of that.
Has anyone had it?

I hate you. You should try it, but I can't give a personal recommendation because I can't find Boulevard anywhere in PA. The Boulevard Saison-Brett occupies the top spot on my wish list right now.columbia wrote:I've seen this at two different gas stations near my house:

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
So I got home to a surprise 30th party last night. My wife had Hennepin and La Fin Du Monde chilling for me. Late into the evening I realized that I had my Allagash FV 13 to try. Put one of those in the fridge and tried it about 90 minutes later. Shared (the small 350ML bottle) with three others so not a full experience (that will probably happen tonight). Great sour, though. Really excited to try a full pour.

I'll take that as a yes.....it's very weird: one of them has it in a corked bottle, right next to the Thunderbird section.
