They started talks with him the day after he was acquired, and the Flyers have already re-signed Steve Mason to a one-year, $1.5 million extension.

They call those stats the "Ken Hitchcock Effect".
Mason will give up 5 goals in his first game against the Pens... in the 1st period.

10 shut outs in the season is what put him on the map.mikey287 wrote:Yeah, a lot of people say, "well, he only had one good season" but the honesty is, it wasn't even that.MRandall25 wrote:They call those stats the "Ken Hitchcock Effect".

And he hasn't had 10 since, so I guess that's why he's taking a more than 50% pay cut...

Detroit close on a 6 year $5.3 per deal with Jimmy Howard? Holy crap is that a terrible move.

I'd rather spend $5.3 million on an average NHL starter than have no NHL caliber starter.

Kind of puts Fleury's $5-million in perspective though, doesn't it.

Good, that should help keep them out of the post-season for two more years.mikey287 wrote:Flyers re-sign Zac Rinaldo and Jay Rosehill to two-year deals...both are less than $800K a piece...

Re: Around the League: Transactions
probably an obscure name that some WBS Penguins' fans would remember and it's not really noteworthy enough to make another thread for.
Ryan Lannon has retired from hockey at age 30 due to back problems. Lannon had planned on returning to KalPa this season, but instead announced his retirement last Wednesday. Lannon was drafted by the Penguins in the 2002 draft and played in W-B/S from 2005 until 2008.

Ryan contacted on Wednesday and told reporters that he now feels the right time to move ahead in life. Ryan has a big back injury and he is opening a new career, these times will be established by the company.
