ESPN - Hockey coverage

Post by MarioLives »

Has anyone else noticed that ESPN does not show the NHL game highlights anymore? How can the world wide leader in sports not show hockey highlights?

Real Simple.

They have the rights to televise just about every sport but hockey. You got to show off the ones paying you. It's all business, not espn hating on hockey.

Look how much time they dedicate to sports like tennis and golf on shows like PTI. I'm fairly confident the NHL is more popular than tennis, and possibly golf. But they own tv rights to the major events in those two sports.

Their limited amount of Nascar coverage does seem a bit strange to me. Nascar was one of the first sports that brought the network attention and they still television the Nationwide series.

Fortunately, theres now a whole network devoted to NHL programming, and a slew of places on the internet for highlights, opinion, and analysis in text, video, and audio form.

Since NHL Network started and broadband became able to handle pretty much anything at home and work, I have never once said to myself: "Gosh, I wish ESPN covered hockey more."

I haven't watched it in a long, long time. With the NFL Network, NHL Network, MLB Network, so many college games on TV, and so many highlights on the Internet ESPN is irrelevant to me.
