If anyone in the Pittsburgh area spots a case of the new Victory saison give a heads up. Haven't tried it yet but will soon.

The Kasteel Donker is very enjoyable. Pretty sweet but not excessive. Rich flavor.Eismann wrote:Couple more new ones for me tonight.

Finch's Fascist Pig - American Red Ale. Don't know whether to credit the glass or this is just a really well balanced beer, but I am tolerating the 72 IBU very well. 8% ABV. Pretty nice beer.

I'm also finding the Westmalle is now too hoppy/fruity following the Donker.Eismann wrote:The Kasteel Donker is very enjoyable. Pretty sweet but not excessive. Rich flavor.Eismann wrote:Couple more new ones for me tonight.

Blue point Toxic Sludge and New Holland Black Hatter are both awesome.BigMcK wrote:Goose Island just hit the shelves at the local. Will snag a six.
Looking for a great example of a Black IPA. Just had Green Flash's (a favorite brewery) version and I still don't think there were enough hops to counter the malt to be credited as an IPA.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
So my program had their open house this weekend for perspective graduate students to come in and see the university and get to talk to faculty and grad students to see if they want to come here for school. They take them to the "nicest" restaurant in town called Zola's. I got there at 6. 7:30 is when dinner starts, so I grab a beer and start talking to perspective students, professors, and other grad students. I look at my watch and realize it's 7:25 so I go to the bar to get a glass of wine to have with dinner. The bar tender says, "You've had 4 10% alcohol content beers in the past half hour, you need to slow down." I get very confused. I explain to him I'm drinking the the Curtain Abby Ale from Gamble Mill which I've had plenty of times before. It's a pretty good beer, slightly sweet for my liking, but it was one of two beers on tap and the other (HB 48 Session Ale from Gamble Mill) has an after taste of fruit loops. So back to me talking to the guy. I explain I've had 3 8% beers in the past hour and a half. He gets very angry with me and sends me away... Again, confused I start talking to some of my friends and of course they have the same "well that's BS." response that I do. So the one guy hands me his wine and goes to the bar, grabs a new glass of wine and then comes back over. He says, "See? That wasn't so hard, you just need to know which bar tender to go to." Just as he says that I look up and the guy that cut me off is staring directly at me, doesn't say a word, just grabs the wine out of my hand and the one out of my buddy's hand and walks away. Then I look at him and he's talking to the lady that's in charge of this whole visitation weekend. She comes over and asks why I'm drunk and trying to drink two glasses of wine at once? Uhhhh...wtf? I explain to her what actually happened, she laughs and says, "This is this guys first time managing a big party like this. He might be a little over zealous." Yeah...ya think?
I sit down to dinner, everyone at my table is ordering wine to have with their dinner, I follow suit and ask my server for a glass of wine. My server brings back wine to everyone at the table but me. Again, wtf? The lady in charge of the weekend is at my table, heard me order the wine, told the server it's okay, I'm not drunk, it was a misunderstanding. The server says her manager, "Told me explicitly not to serve him any alcohol." I just laughed and asked for an iced tea. These people are crazy at this place.

That's especially uncool, in that it was in the context of your work/career. ie damage to your reputation.
Hire Kraftster and sue the bastards.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
My boss was there, he thought it was hilarious. He kept calling me a drunkard all night. The one other lady that's in charge came over at the end of dinner and gave me a sticker for a taxi company in case I needed a ride home. Everyone was laughing about it as they realized the management was just being ridiculous, so really no harm, no foul as far as damaging my reputation. I'm glad that most of the people in my program are pretty light hearted.

Just looked it up... I've only had one Kolsch before, @ Penn Brewery. It was okay, but didn't have a ton of flavor IMO. Not sure if I'll bother chasing this one down as the reviews on BA seem to indicate this is worse in that dept.mac5155 wrote:Leinenkugel canoe paddler is good stuff as well.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Tried a couple this evening:
Otter Creek Imperial Russian Stout: Awesome. Just what I'm looking for from this genre.
Great Divide Titan IPA: Wow. First off, this isn't your typical straightforward hopbomb. A pretty complex flavor that combines a ton of different elements. Awesome brew I would love to have again.

I love the Titan IPA, like you said, it's got alot of complexity to it. The Hercules DIPA from Great Divide is also killer.shafnutz05 wrote:Tried a couple this evening:

I'm sipping on some Full Pint Night of the Living Stout. It's rich with just the right amount of hoppiness. It was a fall release and I just realized I still had some left. Score. Probably switch it up to a Pale Ale after the game. I think I have a few Founders Pale Ales around here somewhere.

Pretty solid IPA. Not one of my standout favorites but really good and drinkable.shafnutz05 wrote:count2infinity wrote:picked up a sixer of sly fox's rt 113 IPA in cans. I love the idea of craft brew in cans, so I pick it up when it looks interesting.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Back from my trip out east. Holy crap. Heck of a bucket list trip as far as beer is concerned. Teresa's is an awesome, awesome bar. I wasn't able to make it in to Monk's, but I honestly don't think that Monk's tops Teresa's, and if it does, it can't be by much. Great, sleek looking bar, good menu (food (antelope burger) was excellent), proper glass selections for beers, perfect pours from bottles, etc.
Teresa's had just gotten in a few bottles (750ML) of Anchorage Brewing Love Buzz Saison -- a saison brewed with brett yeast that has come extremely highly recommended from anyone I know who has tried it. Impossible to get in Pittsburgh, and even very difficult to get in Philly. It definitely delivered.
All told, I got to drink:
Jandrain IV Saison (draft)
Jolly Pumpkin Oro De Calabaza (biere de garde) (draft)
Anchorage Brewing Love Buzz Saison (750 ML)
Allagash Interlude (saison (although it struck me more as an american wild ale)) (750 ML)
Allagash Odyssey (BSDA aged in oak barrels) (750 ML)
Those are definitely some nice bottles to add to my collection.

Happy you enjoyed Teresa's, Kraft. Wayne is a nice little town, and Teresa's is fantastic. Please tell me you had the truffle fries there?

No, not much spare time. Teresa's, Nick Cave show, and some bar after the show. It was actually really nice also. I can't think of the name, but I think it was in Horsham.
If I had had time to stop at a brewery, it would have been Troegs.

Nope. If I would have had several hours there I probably would have tried some more food, but we left late as it was, and I only had time to cram in the burger and all of those beers.shafnutz05 wrote:Happy you enjoyed Teresa's, Kraft.
