named after surfers "alchemy hour" in California, apparently that's the perfect time of day when the waves are just right for ridingMWB wrote:Alchemy Hour sure as heck did not disappoint. Makes me wonder if Great Lakes put Alchemy in the name as some sort of tie in with Heady Topper, which is brewed by The Alchemist Brewery.

Yeah, I read that, just seemed like a bit of a stretch to have Great Lakes name a beer after something in California that just happens to have "alchemy" in it.eddysnake wrote:named after surfers "alchemy hour" in California, apparently that's the perfect time of day when the waves are just right for ridingMWB wrote:Alchemy Hour sure as heck did not disappoint. Bison Brewing's Organic Honey Basil Spring Ale. A touch of honey taste with a very slight nose of herbs. Drinks easy and clean. Perfect weekend beer.
Enjoying a long lasting bond with Tap It IPA. Medium body, great hop nose and flavor. Wish the brewery was closer with a better distributor.

Their organic chocolate is fantastic. I wish it was available in PA

Although this is a hybrid beer/music post, and it is hard to decide which thread is more deserving, I'll settle for the beer thread.
Tuesday of next week for me includes a stop at Teresa's Next Door, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds concert, and a stop at Monk's. Going to be a very, very good day. I am already plotting my beer purchases at both locations.

Whoa Kraftster, you are going to be in Wayne? We go to Teresa's all the time, I'm just a couple miles away in Paoli. The mussels there are divine, and of course the beers are right down your alley. Have a good time.

My brother left me a few beers over the weekend. One being the Flying Dog Classic Pale Ale.
I don't really like Pale Ales, but this one was at least bearable.

Finally bought Alchemy Hour. Awesome stuff. It's funny...I detect some of the malty aspects that are in their Christmas Ale. Combine that with a hoppiness more accustomed to their Commodore Perry. Delicious.
For my money, probably my favorite type of beer (as much as I adore porters/stouts) is an IPA that balances malts and hops perfectly.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
It's not nearly as much of a stretch as you may think. Few people know that Cleveland has a whole underground surf scene on the shores of Lake Erie, it's a homage to the Surfers Alchemy hour regardless of it takes place in Cali, Cleveland, or in a bottle.MWB wrote:Yeah, I read that, just seemed like a bit of a stretch to have Great Lakes name a beer after something in California that just happens to have "alchemy" in it.eddysnake wrote:

From the flyer we got at work about it...
Name Origin: On the West Coast, surfers have a term for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever. They call it Alchemy Hour. In Cleveland, our surfers have to work a little harder to find a perfect swell. Dressed in wetsuits, up at dawn, they camp out on the shores of Lake Erie in near-freezing temperatures, waiting for the ultimate wave. Crazy? Yes. Extreme? Definitely. Alchemy Hour Double IPA pays tribute to the North Coast’s unlikely surf bums and the ancient quest for liquid gold, wherever it may live: on the ocean, in a lake, in a bottle.

Everything about this is odd.shafnutz05 wrote:Beau Bennett reminds me of a young NASCAR driver for some reason
And that's setting aside the lack of a beer tie-in.

Man, Old Rasputin at about 50 degrees is about as perfect a Russian Imp Stout as you can find.

Goose Island just hit the shelves at the local. Will snag a six.
Looking for a great example of a Black IPA. Just had Green Flash's (a favorite brewery) version and I still don't think there were enough hops to counter the malt to be credited as an IPA.

Try Stone's Sublimely Self Righteous. Had it the other day. Quite hoppy.BigMcK wrote:Goose Island just hit the shelves at the local. Will snag a six.

I really like Southern Tier's Iniquity, but it isn't as hoppy.
