Awesome. Like I said, sometimes the Wegman's stock boys make an error and put Sculpin in the Make your own 6 pack section :) Doesn't happen too often though

If the good ol USofA has more gems like the delightful coffee-chocolate-y Old Rasputin Imperial Stout, I think my days with the good but boring Czech lagers may be over!

I normally enjoy a 2XIPA to start or finish the night, but I could probably drink quite a few of these. Lots of flavor.

Plenty of good stouts to try here. Keep on trying them.

Tomas, if you have a Whole Foods near you, look for this. It's right around what you're looking for.

I would also suggest Southern Tier Choklat, or really any stout from ST, along with Founders Breakfast Stout.

Finally got my hands on the Alchemy today at Total Wine. Only two four packs left and they were only allowing people to buy one. Looking forward to it tonight.

Yup, definitely.

Wasn't a big fan of the Chicory Stout when I tried it, but may have to try it again. Although I haven't been a big fan of anything by Dogfish, except the IPA.

i wasn't impressed the first time i had it, but i've since become pretty obsessed with it.

allegedly it's seasonal as a december/january thing, but it's still available all over the place.

I enjoyed the Chicory Stout, but it didn't blow me away or anything. I didn't notice the chicory really. It was a drinkable, easy-downing stout, but falls a good ways short from some of the standard-bearers of that genre (Founders, Rogue, etc)

it's extremely light for a stout, which makes it a totally different experience than you'd get from founders (for instance). but for such a light beer, it has big flavor.

I agree, I enjoy it for what it is, which is a lighter stout.

for a heavier drink, i'd generally go with a belgian tripel/quad over a stout

Yep. There has been a beer revolution here in the US. Tons of amazing beers in all different styles, stouts, porters, ipas, lagers, etc. Awesome.

Depends on the specific beer, really. And I guess it depends on what you mean by "heavy." I think of a heavier beer as a beer that I won't want more than 22 oz of in one sitting because the taste is so thick and powerful. A lot of the Imperial Stouts are very heavy. Some of the barrel aged stouts can be quite heavy. And some of the quads and tripels fit that too. To me, a lot of the lighter stouts don't have a flavor profile that is that interesting. More just a thick beer.

Alchemy Hour sure as heck did not disappoint. Looks beautiful and tastes even better. This gives Heady Topper a run for its money. I'd like to have a head to head tasting of them to really compare. Makes me wonder if Great Lakes put Alchemy in the name as some sort of tie in with Heady Topper, which is brewed by The Alchemist Brewery.

Lol... maybe not, maybe I'm just living in the moment. It's been over a year since I've had Heady Topper. I'm hoping my parents bring some when they come next month so I can have a true taste test, but I'm very impressed with this.

re: high end IPAs

Are you getting a more refined/complex drinking experience or is it just a total hop bomb?

Keep in mind that I don't really like IPAs.

Yes, definitely. I don't like IPA's that are just big on hops. There's a lot more complexity and depth to Double IPAs in most cases. The higher alcohol content also balances out the hops.
