8 years at $8.25 per. I've always liked his game, but that's too rich for my blood. He joins Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin and Eric Staal as the only NHLers with a cap hit over $8M.
Curious to see what happens with Corey Perry now.

Hefty, but probably not unreasonable given his importance to the franchise.

that's a butt deal. aside from the fact that he's never even cracked 25 goals, you shouldn't give a player like this the money and the term. pick either an obscene amount of money OR a max length deal. not both. not both.

There aren't too many bonafide number one centers out there. If you have one, you better hang onto him. Getzlaf being one of 5 guys to make over $8mil a year, though... I don't know about that.

I remember watching this guy in their cup run. He just had that, "I'm gonna be captain some day." feel to him. Real good player, real likable guy.
Edit: That's a huge price for him.

Make it Adam Banks and half the Oreo Line then we have a deal.Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:Perry for Kennedy, Eaton, Morozov, and Charlie "Triple Deke" Conway. Do it RS.

Are we getting Banks? If so, steal. If not, no deal. Too valuable to the team's success.

Re: Ryan Getzlaf signs eight year extension in Anaheim
The amount is odd. Too high for the Getzlaf who played last year and 1st half of this year. About right for the Getzlaf who played 2 seasons ago and the one that's playing now. He needs to be more consistent.
EDIT:
EDIT:
Helene Elliott @helenenothelen
Getzlaf extension has a no-move clause that kicks in immediately

Re: Ryan Getzlaf signs eight year extension in Anaheim
At first I thought the amount was odd as well. Lots of things to consider though. This is the first deal for a top player under the new CBA with restrictions on max length and salary variance. As a comparison, Sid's average salary over the first 8 years of his contract is $10.8 million, which makes Getzlaf's contract more reasonable (though still a little high in my opinion).Pitts wrote:The amount is odd. What will be interesting is how this deal and the new restrictions in the CBA will affect Geno's new contract. His cap hit is guaranteed to be higher than Sid's and by a significant amount. There's just no way to hide from it anymore, especially when giving an 8 year deal to a 27 year old.

Couldn't afford to lose both in Anaheim. Too many jerseys in the seats would be displaced. The feel I get is that Corey Perry has one foot out the door, Getzlaf just needed to be paid and he'd stay. Kyle Palmieri can help to replace Perry...they don't have anyone that can replace Getzlaf...

But it is the new economic structure of the CBA. No more front loading to reduce cap hits. No more obscene contract length to hide what a player is really making. Everyone is going to be shocked when Malkin has a cap hit $2 million higher than Crosby, but that's the way of the world now. Crosby has a cap hit of $8.7 million, but doesn't make less than $9 million until the 10th year of his deal. Salaries are roughly going to stay the same, its the cap hit that's going to increase.Great58 wrote:So much for the new economic structure of the CBA. :roll:brwi wrote:Enjoy over-paying like a maniac for a guy who isn't close to being an elite.

Theres alot of yinzers on this board who can't figure that concept out though. There was humangous big topic about it a few months agoDickie Dunn wrote:But it is the new economic structure of the CBA. No more front loading to reduce cap hits.
