Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
i think this would be a great idea for the NHL. it would keep relevant fighting in the game and limit the staged crap

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
Interesting idea, but what is this NHL you speak of?
I forget - when a player gets suspended for these kind of manners do they also lose money? I would worry about your typical enforcer who would fight...and then take the suspension because the team wasnt planning on him playing for another few games anyway. Or how about the cycling of a goon enforcer from your ahl team (see: Islanders).
Interesting thought for sure...I really don't have a big problem with an emotions boiling over type fight...I grow weary of the "hey you and I both get 3 minutes of ice time a game and have no real problem with each other and I know it's the beginning of the first period and nothing has happened yet, but lets fight"

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
2 main issues...
it would take away jobs from guys who just fight, which i'd be totally ok with. the NHLPA might have different feelings on the matter.
the refs would probably just be even more hesitant to actually call instigator penalties if a guy could get a suspension for it.

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
In case you hadn't noticed, and judging by the complete lack of buzz outside the Ocean State you haven't, the Providence Friars (15-11-7, 13-7-6 conference) are on a little bit of a roll right now and will play UMass Lowell at Schneider Arena tonight, with a win either team can clinch its first Hockey East Regular Season Title. Since the league was started in 1985, no team other than BC, BU, Maine, or New Hampshire has won the Regular Season Championship, although PC has won the Hockey East tournament twice.
On the other hand, with a loss tonight and wins by BC, BU, and UNH, who are all playing teams with fewer than 10 wins on the season, the Friars would lose home ice advantage in the quarterfinals- so they'd better win! With a tie, domination by the Big Four is pretty sure to continue.
PC is led by Flames third round draft pick Goaltender Jon Gilles. The Freshman recorded his fifth shutout of the season last night at Lowell.
Let's go Friars!!!!

To be fair, I don't follow college hockey at all and have been hearing about Providence this year.
