Why would anyone ever hire Vinnie, let alone like the FAN did to get him to come to a new market.

If Hines Ward wasnt a Steeler not a single person around would think he deserves 1st ballotviva la ben wrote:Vinnie and Cook were talking about the hall of dame and if Hines will get in on the first ballot. Vinnie says since Hines is still on tv and is on a cooking comp and won DWTS that will play in his favor. Cook says that's a stupid idea, and Vinnie kept on saying "he was on Dancing on the Stars".....he said "Dancing on the Stars" about 5 times.

No he's not.
At this point though, it's more the Hall of Very good, rather than the HOF, so I'm sure he will get in eventually.

Barely and really only because of his career longevity which let him hit certain all time numbers.columbia wrote:Which raises the question:Pavel Bure wrote:Hines is not a HOFer.

I'd say barely as well. And this is in the same situation with Hines. If Bettis doesnt play for the Steelers people would think it was a joke even having him in the 1st ballot discussion. People around here are acting like this was an unreal snubcolumbia wrote:Which raises the question:Pavel Bure wrote:Hines is not a HOFer.

one of the dolts on the fan morning show driven by hyundai pointed out that bettis has a good chance because hes one of the last of the dying breed. faulk, tomlinson, the bus, and curtis martin all ended up in the top 10 in rushing. other than peterson, is there anyone on the horizon that can expect to be in the top 10 in rushing in the forseeable future? the great running back is a dinosaur, so the last ones will be remembered.

Busy day in Pittsburgh Sports Radio yesterday...
Mueller got the gig with Starkey and Miller
Dunlap got Mueller's old show from 10-2
Bendel was fired at 970

sad about bendel. not always an interesting show but unlike the bums at the fan he was no nonsense and talked sports the old fashioned way.

Smizik made a good point about Bendel in his blog...
Bendel operated a no-frills show. Little shtick but lots of hard work and honest opinion. He came fully prepared and never short-changed his listeners.

Re: The Official LGP Pittsburgh Sport Radio Thread
Really sucks to hear Bendel got fired. Smizik's thoughts in his blog post were dead-on. For people that didn't want schtick and were looking for no-frills sports talk, he was one of the best options here. I liked to listen because he dedicated substantial amounts of his show to Pitt football and Pitt hoops. He was also one of the only local radio guys to make concerted efforts to bring on guests who could offer actual analysis from time to time, too.
970 never did him any favors with the signal. I drive from Pgh to Aliquippa every day to head home and usually lose the signal on regular radio around the Hopewell exit on 376.

Re: The Official LGP Pittsburgh Sport Radio Thread
My only problem with Bendel (aside from the signal) was that he would dedicate entire shows on some really garbage topic. That's just personal, he had a more broad interest in sports than I care to have. So if he's talking about boxing or basketball or some other random thing, it was unlistenable for me.

Re: The Official LGP Pittsburgh Sport Radio Thread
Ugh, talk about uninterestring. The Pens could be in the SC, the Steelers could be in the SB and Pitt could be in the final four and he would want to talk about baseball. I never cared for him when he was doing the Pirates post game show and I don't care for him now.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:it should be noted that david todd, a tool, will be replacing bendel
Anyways sucks what happened to Bendel. I enjoyed listening to his show because he was very intelligent about what he was talking about and I enjoyed his opinions on the Steelers post game show this season with Tom Bradley.

Dejan is accusing (without saying the magic word) CBS Pittsburgh of plagiarism.
