FANTASY HOCKEY DRAFT STRATEGY

Post by whodeany16 »

Every year I play fantasy hockey and go with a new strategy. Top heavy forwards, top heavy D, draft two goalies to start, etc. With limited success and year after year of dusted in the 1st round of the playoffs, i'm wondering if any LGP'ers have a decent strategy for drafting?

Centers (3)
Wingers (6)
Utility (2)
Goalie (2)

Scoring is 10 Categories:

If you don't get Crosby, Malkin, Giroux, Stamkos, make sure you get 2 legit goalies. Thats always been my strategy, though the top names obviously change.

I should of included the fact that I have the 12th pick in a 12 team league.

I'd take a goalie with one of your first 2 picks. I'd probably get my 2nd goalie the next time through. I rarely draft D till the mid to late rounds.

Yeah, I'd definitely be looking to lock up the goalie categories if I were in your spot.

I always put alot of importance on goalies because those 2/3 roster positions account for up to half of the categories in some leagues. When your drafting 12th out of 12 you have to take a goalie with one of those first 2 picks otherwise when the 'run' on goalies starts you'll be left with the leftovers. I'm sure Quick and Lundquist will probably already be gone by the time you get your first picks and if you have to wait another 23 picks you'll be screwed. I'd probably take the best forward and the best goalie and then next time it gets to you take the BAP and your second goalie.
