I always envisioned Ed from Bloomfield as one of those old schizos that hang out at the crazy mocha on Liberty Ave all day.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:no, chuck from uniontown is the older guy that calls in after pirate games.JS© wrote:Is the older guy that called in after Pirates games?KennyTheKangaroo wrote:also, did anyone else know that ed from bloomfield died?

Chuck from Uniontown sounds like a guy that was a drinking buddy with Honus Wanger and Fred Clarke back in the day.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:no, chuck from uniontown is the older guy that calls in after pirate games.JS© wrote:Is the older guy that called in after Pirates games?KennyTheKangaroo wrote:also, did anyone else know that ed from bloomfield died?

Anyways I was I took a drive at about 3am and was listening to the overnight show on the fan, it's the Damon Amendolara (sp?) show. I thought I tune in since I always see this guy contributing to NFL Top 10 on the NFL Network and I like what he says on there. It wasn't a bad show at all for national sports radio standards. Very knowledgeable with football and friendly with the people who calls in.
Not my cup of tea to listen to reguarly though. I'm a Pittsburgh man who liked to listen to Pittsburgh sports. I don't give a crap about what's happening with the Denver Broncos or the LA Lakers. Bendel does that from time to time with the NBA and I can't stand it.
BTW, Madden wanted to tell all the Pens fans out there that unless Tangradi pans out, the Whitney trade was a bust. Saying we need Whitney now because we need a top 4 defenseman. Seriously if this is the kind of Pens talk i'm going to get from him i'm going to quit listening to him because that made no sense. Chris Kunitz was guy that helped put the team over the hump to win the SC. We needed to make that trade and Whitney was a good D man but would we of won the SC if we didn't make that trade? I don't know.

Can't help but wonder if BoB thanked Paul Alexander for all the cupcakes he brought him this morning.

I meant to post this yesterday, but Filiponi was on with Starkey and Miller and I instantly changed the channel.

Same. I heard him say he was filling in this week, hung on just to see how long I could take it, less than 60 seconds later the rest was history.viva la ben wrote:I meant to post this yesterday, but Filiponi was on with Starkey and Miller and I instantly changed the channel.

Re: The Official LGP Pittsburgh Sport Radio Thread
Maybe people just have unrealistic expectations of what radio can be?
I listened to about 5 minutes of Boomer and Carton on WFAN this morning and it's completely unbearable....should we really expect radio in Pittsburgh to be any better than that? It seems unlikely that it will ever happen.
Sorry for being a nihilist....

They just need to get people who know what they're talking about to come on as guests. Did you ever hear that segment that Jack Ham and Madden used to do every week during the football season? Plus listening to matt williamson talk about football ranks up there too. The problem is when they bring people like rob rossi to come talk about hockey, he just regurgitates the filth from PR.

Re: The Official LGP Pittsburgh Sport Radio Thread
The whole premise of the Fan has been the station driving behind the opinion of what the actual fan thinks.
Madden actually called this out a week ago and said that a station won't survive on an opinion of someone who isn't paid to give one, and canned corny gimmicks can only get you so far.
In a way, I saw what he was saying and now look at The Fan that way, and it really is awful from top to bottom. I don't want to hear what Joe from Shaler thinks on a daily basis, because nine times out of ten it's awful.

One trip through PR is all you need to know this is a bad idea.Malkamaniac wrote:The whole premise of the Fan has been the station driving behind the opinion of what the actual fan thinks.
