Along the lines of the Red Thunder, Victory is aging Golden Monkey in some white wine barrels to create White Monkey.

I want to throw back some beers this evening, but I think I have a sinus infection (although I'm not that stuffy, more a nagging headache). Sigh :(

Shiner Holiday Cheer... A dark hefeweizen with peaches and pecans. It's interesting... The latter flavors don't beat you over the head, but they're there.

I am noticing the peach a bit more as I drink. Not bad. Don't think I'd ever buy a case or anything.

Gave it a shot this evening on draft at a bar. I honestly felt like the first taste was very nut-rolly and, after that, it was nothing special. I drank it with my meal and found it to be tasty, but nothing special. At $3 a glass, I'd gladly buy it again.

Now, another question -- has anyone tried the Lienenkugel Winter Sample? How is the Vanilla Porter?

Had the vanilla porter and didn't like it much. Not a whole lot of flavor.

I was going to reply to your original post when I saw this... you were wayyyy to kind. It is honestly the foulest holiday brew I have ever tasted. It's not just overwhelming peach, it is overwhelming artificial peach. The Shiner Octoberfest was actually pretty good, and great for the price, but I wouldn't drink another Holiday Cheer if someone paid me.

Hit Troegs for their Impending Descent firkin tapping yesterday. Delicious.

I had the Stone Vertical Epic today and it was solid but nothing spectacular. Also tried a 14% 4IPA from Pizza Boy that almost knocked me on my ass.

The tour of beer continued last night with Russian River Temptation. Its a blonde american wild ale/sour, aged in chardonnay barrels. I freaking loved it. I shouldn't really be surprised by this, but I prefer red wine to white, so thought it would have a hard time coming close to the deliciousness of Supplication and Consecration (pinot noir and cab barrel aged respectively). Man, so damn good.

Decent hot summer day beer, especially if you like apricots.

Having Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer now. Very good. Loving the American double stouts lately.

Yuck....I think it's readily apparent that I just don't like Magic Hat beers. It has a really weird smell...the initial taste isn't bad, but oh god the aftertaste is horribly acrid. It's the thinnest "stout" I've ever had. I think that's probably the last beer I have by them.
tried this today. blech. i should probably just give up on magic hat, completely.

Drinking the Dogfish Head Positive Contact right now. This is an interesting one... think Wit + apple Cider. I read that there is apparently some cayenne in there... I don't really notice anything spicy per se, but there might be a slight, occasional afterburn, which would be consistent with cayenne.

Picked up a Franziskaner dunkel for this evening. I know I've had different Franziskaners before, but can't really remember much about them.

Dunkel was very good...great flavor. It felt a bit thin in the beginning, but that was most likely due to the scotch I had before it...
Flavor was fantastic, though. Fruit notes without being fruity...so good.
