Crosby's Tears eh, probably the stupidest thing i'll hear today. They should be embarrased.shmenguin wrote:there's a bar in philly i've been going to for a while (Nodding Head- it's actually the place that put out the "crosby's tears" beer, but whatever). they make this beer called "grog", and i've been so frustrated not being able to find anything like it on the shelves. this chicory stout is very, very close.shafnutz05 wrote:I actually tried it for the first time last night. So it looks like I may be hitting up D's and the Penn Brewery tomorrow. Has anyone been to D's lately? Haven't been in a few years, so not sure what to expect.

That is an awesome list...I enjoy pretty much every beer on there except for Abita. My wife got Abita wheat yesterday and I swear to God it tasted just like Budweiser

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I have been thinking about IPAs lately and hating the fact that I feel that I have written off an entire style of beer that is very prevalent in this area. I don't expect that I can force my palate to change, but are there any IPAs that you hop heads would consider to be "complex?" I think part of what I hate about IPAs (aside from the taste) is that I find there to be little complexity to the beers -- just varying degrees of bitterness within just a couple general flavor profiles. Of course it may just be the fact that the up-front hops flavor crushes my palate so much that I can't pick up the other tastes.

From that list, I hate Purple Haze, Hop Wallop and Hops Infusion. The latter has a vegetable aftertaste. Once I picked up on it, I couldn't drink another drop.

Tough to say, I don't really think that ipa's very much between one another. The only couple of unique ones I can be sort of picked out from the crowd would include Bell's Hop Slam, Sixpoint Resin and SE Over the Edge. Those are the super floral, not as heavy and bitter. More sweet and crisp.

My friend claims that Weihenstephaner is now available in cases here. If so, this will be one happy holiday.

Apparently Draai Laag has special Holiday open hours... They're open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week and next week. Need to stop by and get a growler of Aureus.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Some of the double IPAs might be worth a shot. Ruination and 2x by ST would be a place to start. Might be overly hoppy for you, but they are more complex.Kraftster wrote:I have been thinking about IPAs lately and hating the fact that I feel that I have written off an entire style of beer that is very prevalent in this area. Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I picked up some Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale...I've never had it and am about to taste...it...now...
Wow...wow.
This is really good. Very hoppy black ale. Very bitter with grapefruit and pine? but really good. Picking up the malts a couple sips in. This is a good one.
I'm happy.![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

So what's the deal with beer flights?
Why would I want multiple beers just sitting in a glass and losing their fizz?

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I would second this. Let me think and I may have a few more suggestions for you. Not that long ago, I was the same way. I refused to drink IPA's. I found some really good ones and my palate changed from there, making me a TOTAL hophead now.ILikeTurtles wrote:Krafster: go for some Dogfishhead 90 minute IPA, it will not fail you.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Went to my local gastropub this evening (did I mention BA ranked it the 18th best place in the world to have a pint?)
Tried Terrapin Moo Hoo Chocolate Stout -- Very delicious, certainly chocolaty but I was a fan.
Lagunitas Capuccino Stout -- Absolutely outstanding....WOW. Does Lagunitas make anything poorly?

Had Mad Elf for the first time. Pretty good for a Christmas beer.
Kraftster, you could also try some black IPAs. Generally less hoppy. Otter Creek makes a good one. Others I've had but can't remember the names now.

Oh yeah. Good call. I think I had the 21st amendment black IPA and thought it was pretty decent. I also like Sumpin' Sumpin'. There was also an oak-aged IPA that I had, which I thought was interesting.MWB wrote:Had Mad Elf for the first time. Pretty good for a Christmas beer.

I'll likely pick up some Bass, but that's about as hoppy as I can go these days.
