Re: Random Songs
legame and Sarcastic: Thank you both for the advice. Haven't played in a while (years) and the guitar that I am using is borrowed. A student Yamaha acoustic (freaking high action -- no wonder Guitar Hero is more popular than someone actually leaning to play a real guitar; no pain) added to human lack of dexterity and calluses have not helped. I am picking each note and finger tips are burning...
First person that arrived earlier asked if I was playing the guitar again. So far, so good.
Cheers to all the picker's and griner's out there! Roy Clark Big Note Guitar Note Book served me well.

Re: Random Songs
I have not, but I have recently discovered that I like the DB's. I've sought some power pop guidance here...but I don't think anyone here is too deep into that scene.

Re: Random Songs
Perhaps...but i think power pop is a pretty defined style that the Replacements don't fit.
Awesome post-punk throwback here.

Re: Random Songs
I'd say postpunk-garage band. They're not the most sophisticated band ever, but I have a hard time trying to pinpoint my absolute favorite song from them. So in my book, that must mean they've been rather important to me over the years.Gaucho wrote:Are the Replacements considered Power Pop?

Re: Random Songs
I'm not deep in the scene, but I've always enjoyed Blondie, Weezer, Squeeze, the Jam, the Buzzcocks, Fountains of Wayne, XTC, the Smithereens, the Vapors..stuff like that. Stuff that qualifies as alternative but is hard to categorize into one genre, I think.Troy Loney wrote:I have not, but I have recently discovered that I like the DB's. I remember seeing the Smithereens at Graffiti in Oakland after they got kicked off their label. Had to be almost 20 years ago. It was tremendous--everyone was into it. I don't even know if Graffiti still exists. /randomanecdotenotcoolstory

The Smithereens just played a music festival back home a few months ago.Lt. and Graffiti closed in 2000 according to this article: http://oldmonmusic.blogspot.com/2008/08 ... lenge.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I thought they were open until at least 2002 or 2003.
A Porsche dealer moved into the building, and they too have since closed up shop.
