Re: Where my fellow cooks at???
why does the endless string of passive-agressive rhetorical questions in that review irk me so?

Having eaten at both of his namesake places, (Sac and Santa Rosa), he is best suited for being a celebrity judge and personality than actual cook. He was doing a mall tour a few years back so the wife wanted to go and meet him. That dude was dialed-up to 10. She asked him some questions about food; I asked about the camaro. She ended buying a visor with spiked white hair that is now lost somewhere.
As Thanksgiving approaches, anyone have thoughts or opinions on a heritage turkey over organic as far as flavor?

As someone who cooks wild turkeys I approve of a heritage turkey.

Lol.
My Italian roast beef was good but the fiancee forgot to cut the salt in 1/4 like the rest of the recipe. Salt city :-(

Episode 2 of Top Chef is on tonight.
I'm pulling for the 50-something dude that never made it, but I assume that he will not last.

Guy Fieri is nothing more than a game show winner, and has parlayed that into a successful career as a television presenter of food-related programs.count2infinity wrote:I like Guy, but this review would certainly make me think twice about eating in his restaurants. wow...

He's a terrible cook, and anyone with more than a few days' experience cooking on a more than sustenance level should be able to tell that he speaks with the culinary authority of a retarded ferret. So when I read a review of his newest mega-establishment that contains the line "The well-meaning staff seems to realize that this is not a real restaurant", I am not the least bit surprised.
In fact, when any of the current generation of Food Network automatons get skewered in the media, I'm all for it. They all trade on the strength of a brand rather than their food chops. With the exception of Giada De Laurentiis and Ina Garten, they're all a bunch of no-talent hacks.
I didn't find anything passive about the aggression at all.canaan wrote:why does the endless string of passive-agressive rhetorical questions in that review irk me so?

Giada has her appeal, regardless of her cooking talents (which seem to be real). ![Cool 8-)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Re: Where my fellow cooks at???
i think there is a delineation between the food network puppets (the aforementioned fieri-types) and the chefs with personality. I think people like zakarian, conant, & murphy are very intelligent when it comes to cooking and the expression of the how-to's and what not. then you have a couple of in-betweeners that dont really present anything incredibly well, but are decent personalities. aaron sanchez would fit in this category.tifosi77 wrote:In fact, when any of the current generation of Food Network automatons get skewered in the media, I'm all for it. IMO: Bobby Flay's issue is that he's a cheeseball, not that he can't cook.

i dont really care for bobby flay. i think hes the kind of chef that changes the appearance of a known recipe and calls it original. id put him closer to guy fieri's line of overall ability than i would anything else.
