Threw this question out on twitter tonight and nobody had an answer.
Which NHL players were injured while playing overseas in the last lockout? I remember Heatley was injured and I think Brad Richards ended up having some sort of surgery either late into the season or after the KHL season was completed.
And by NHL'er, I mean a player who had played the season before in the NHL and had intentions to return once the lockout ended.

Gomez got hurt in the ECHL, and its effects have lingered, I seem to recall that. Lecavalier got hurt in Russia, IIRC and was rather unhappy with the facilities/treatment over there...

I forgot about Gomez and wasn't unsure about Lecavalier. I initially had him and wondered if it was him or Richards. Once I found Richards had sports hernia surgery, I didn't bother doing a follow up on Lecavalier. I do remember him being less than happy about the facilities in the KHL.mikey287 wrote:Gomez got hurt in the ECHL, and its effects have lingered, I seem to recall that. Gomez? Was that the incident where he was checked into the open bench door?

Yeah, I think he broke his pelvis or something. I also thought he hurt his knee at some point too, but that could have been in the NHL.

Yep, shattered pelvis due to a cheap shot from a goon.

Gomez did have 33 goals and 84 points right out of the lockout

Re: Injuries from the 2004-05 lockout
Increased scoring by way of power plays and "opened" space. Sometimes it can take time or re-aggravation for injuries to become nagging problems. If I'm remembering right, the same can be applied to Gary Suter's hit on Gretzky in 1991 Canada Cup and then later the same player drilling Paul Kariya rather cheaply in 1996 or 97. It wasn't that next season that they saw real problems, it was later years. Though, I guess I don't recall every injury that occured to every player. So maybe other things caused their respective downfalls, but until I know otherwise...Mr. Colby wrote:Gomez did have 33 goals and 84 points right out of the lockout

That sounds about right. I'm sure his downfall was that hit from that game and there was probably a hit sometime in 2007ish that changed him as a player completely.
